~15% of all NBA players are 7 feet or taller.

Only 11.7% (7/60) of the 2012 NBA draft were seven footers. Three of them came from the second round.

    Supply and demand.

What's the word on Chicago's end? Are they likely to match?

And you think Daryl Morey, of all people, hasn't looked at his stats?

Ha exactly. Blasting the guy because he doesn't think Asik is worth that contract. That's his opinion. Doesn't mean he's right, doesn't mean he's wrong.

What is to stop Chicago from reworking the deal next summer to make the last years of the deal more cap friendly?

    I'm just saying ....

so... just because he's 7 feet he should get 25 mil?

Thabeet is 7'3 feet and in his rookie year, he would have averaged 3.6 blocks per 36 mins. That's a lot more than Asik would average according to PER 36.

Would you give Thabeet anywhere near 25 mil over 3 years?

Asik has barely played. And when he did, he was still surrounded by lots of other good players that made him look good.

    He's not worth that money.

someone who is not really a bulls fan but a rockets fan disguised as bulls fan, who reallly reallly reallllly hates this signing and wants to give his insight from the perspective of a "bulls fan".

listening to chicago 670 the score, the majority of the calls along with the host want to match.

care to explain why? or just wanting to leave a negative comment.. it is amazing to me that we all complain that we dont have a center we dont have a center and then when we make an offer for one everyone goes no big deal .. asik is going to be an upgrade defensively over dalembert and he is going to cost just about 3 million more (need i remind you that dalemberts contract was deemed very friendly by other teams) with him and camby we have legit centers and that is a good starting point.

personally i dont want dwight and it is not bc i fear losing him, it is bc if he comes here, he is going to moan and complain just like he did last year in orlando and bring the team down and we dont need that

I haven't heard anything. Before the deal was announced, the Bulls said they would match.. after the numbers were released, it's been quiet.

The Bulls are probably mulling it over. They do have a while to decide.

Here are some interesting stats about Asik according to Hardwood Paroxysm:

"Of players with over 200 possessions defended last season, Omer Asik had the best points alllowed per possession."

"Omer Asik was in the 96th percentile in defensive points allowed per possession last season. 84th v. p'n'r ball handler. 77th post up."

No joke. We crucify Morey for not getting a very good defensive center and when he tries to do so, he is an idiot. Earth to the real idiots, competent defensive centers are expensive.

Kyle Korver's defensive rating was also high last season. KYLE KORVER.

That shows you how much those advanced stats mean.

Only 1 player from the 2011 NBA draft was 7-0.

    Donatas Motiejunas

All six 7 footers in 2010 were drafted in the second round. All were busts.

All three seven footers in the 2009 draft (including #2 overall Hasheem Thabeet) were busts.

I am not sure what to think about this deal.

I like Asik, but the guy has never played a full game?! His minutes will explode and question is how his body will react? He might end up at 10p/12r guy, or on the injured list like Yao.

Morey doesn't care. He paid him that money just to scare the bulls off.
