Yes i know he is a very good rebounder. I know he is an above average defender but just how good is he? Does he play like a garnett or noah against the pick and roll? Is he a top 5 defender when isolated in the post? Does he have potential to get even better? I realize that he is an above average defender, but from what i have seen he isn't "elite" defensively. Anyways you guys get the drift. For those of you that have caught many bulls games shed some light on our potential new starting center..............

As said in the Omar Asik thread, many of the chicago watchers feel he is severely overrated.

It's hard to say how he will do with more play time, but on the bright side he will be making basicly the same money as Dalembert was, so they aren't breaking the bank on him.

TBH there are certain posters on this forum that i am waiting for to respond and trust their opinions much more so than random bulls fans. Keep in mind they have Noah who is getting paid 12 million per. If they were in our shoes their opinion on this matter might be different.

Small tidbit that I think many people may be forgetting / don't know about is that he sets terrific screens. I think this could be very beneficial for our wing men to get paths to the basket.

Now that the offer is likely to be matched, "GLAD WE DIDN'T LOSE HIM! He's been great for us off the bench."

McHale's offense is pick and roll every play.
Everything hinges on whether he'll be a good finisher or not. He showed hope at the end of the season in Chicago, but the fact of the matter is he was very weak and soft beforehand.

I really hope that has changed.

His offensive game is completely limited to others guys driving and dishing it to him under the basket for 2 handed dunks. His FT% is horrible as well.

With those things said I'm still okay with signing. I just hope it does not take rockets out of the running for Dwight.

Still waiting for someone who knows what they are talking about to give that insight. Here's a bit of Hollinger info. More in depth than anything I've see yet. Also note this is about a year old:

you guys going to in depth trying to find the mystery reason morey wants him. He is 7ft, young can rebound and play D in paint and not alot of quality centers to choose from in FA. Thats it no need for advanced stats

He's one of the better all-around defensive Centers in the league. He's an excellent protector at the basket, he's very solid one-on-one down low, he's a good rebounder, and he's easily the best 7 ft. PnR defender you'll see in the league. The guy works extremely hard on the defensive end in every aspect.

His offense sucks, though... and it actually got worse in his second season. He brings the ball down too low in the paint, which allows players to strip it from him. That's definitely possible to fix, though. As he plays more and more minutes, he'll get better at keeping the ball up. What won't be so easy to fix is his complete lack of a jumper, his VERY limited post moves, and his horrible free throw shooting.

At the end of the day, though, I think his defense is completely worth that $8 million per year contract... especially when you consider how horrible the Rockets looked defending the PnR last season.

Kevin McHale project piece. Hopefully he can round his game out enough to make him a good C on offense.

I know he hasn't played much, but will this guy be able to stay out of foul trouble when he gets a lot more minutes?

Asik has a Drtg of 92 :eek: making him the best defensive player on the bulls.

He also rebounds more effectively than Noah,

    Noah Trb% 18
    Asik Trb% 20

    while providing better shotblocking.

    Noah BLK% 3.4
    Asik BLK% 5

This isn't to say he is better than Noah, as Noah is clearly ahead offensively and passing the ball. However, Asik is a very, very good defensive presence and rebounder with room to grow.
