Agreed...I know he had that no trade clause and has every right to exercise it...but it's for 3 months. Let him rot on the bench as he rides his contract out and give the younger guys time to prove themselves or not.

I say we trade him to.... the Mariners...

We'll give them Lee and cash considerations for a pot of Starbucks coffee.

Pretty selfish move by Carlos. Astros paid you well above your worth for years. Now you can make the biggest contribution to the team by going away and he doesn't..

Of course he has every right to do so but I hope they send him to the minors we need to see if Wallace is a legit starter or not...

We can't send him to the minors without his permission. It's part of the CBA.

Passive/aggressive things we can do include:
-Trading him to a team not on his NTL
-Benching him for the rest of the season
-Banning him from the pre/post- game buffets.

only the buffet one would be passive-aggressive. the only 2 are simply what they should do, spite-driven or not.

If it gets close to that deadline and nothing has come up....I'd find the furthest team from Texas on that list and ship him there for whatever I could get.

As much as I'd like to see the Astros sit Carlos on the bench for the rest of the season, trade him for a bag of balls, a fungo and a six pack of beer, I think that Luhnow has a little more class than that.

Unfortunately Carlos is here to stay for the rest of the season, barring any trade of Carlos to a team (that isn't on the list), he'll be a fixture for three more months. I'd still like to see Brett Wallace brought up to man first base and platoon with Carlos.

To say I'm disappointed that the trade fell through is an understatement as getting Carlos off the team and getting a pitcing prospect in return would've been a great move.

Let's see what the next thirty days hold.

Why would that be classless by Luhnow. It is in the best interest of our team for him to sit on the bench while we give others AB's. He won't be here next year under any circumstances, this year is done competitively and we have prospects we need to see. And if you can get something, no matter how insignificant it may seem....it is still something . He showed no interest in helping out the team (agreed, it is debatable whether he owes that) but he made it an easy choice for us when it comes to the matter of whether we should be interested in helping out him. Let him rot in the clubhouse, cost himself a few million for the next contract he steals so he can focus on funding his ranch.

Because if Carlos sat on the bench for tomorrow, the next day and the forseeable future for three months it would be as petty. I'm sure behind the scenes there will be disappointment stressed, but Luhnow will do what he needs to do in his own way. I doubt at this point that Luhnow could get anything for Lee, especially since his "competitive fire" has been called into question. What GM would want him now? IMO Luhnow is professional enough to say the right things and put on a smile.

Carlos has made a bed and will lie in it when the season is over. If he does choose to play baseball again, IMO he will have a hard time getting a contract due to his lack of competitive fire. Again, what GM would want him? Lee has proven that living near his ranch is more important that playing for a winning ball club.

While he can block 15 teams (isnt it?), doesnt that mean he cant block the others?

    Is Carlos still deciding?

If you didn't want to go, say you don't want to go. To have continued to string this out "Well uhh...I don't really know" or "I haven't made a decision yet" blah blah blah. You knew what you wanted to do.

If they did that, he would be demand to be traded immediately! lol

It really sucks that he pretty much said, F it, I'm just gonna relax, half ass try, and collect all this money the Astros are paying me... all while rolling around in 100 dollar bills. :)

I don't see why it would be seen as petty. It would be perfectly reasonable for the Astros to play Carlos the first half of the season for two reasons:

    1. On the off chance they were to be in a playoff position.
    2. To showcase his ability for potential trade partners.

It would also be perfectly reasonable for the Astros to tell him that they need to evaluate Wallace over the course of the year and his (Lee's) playing time will be limited. That's not petty, that is a good organizational strategy.

I was mostly just kidding. He was 1 for 4 today which is only a .250 avg. While it may have been better than most others on the team, it is by no means exceptional. I did mean that he isn't a totally useless MLB player, but I was joking around with that example to prove it.

It is not necessarily petty. The Astros are well out of contention and need to play young players. They played Lee when they were still in contention and in an effort to deal him for prospects. If Lee will not agree to a trade, then there is no reason to play him... And it is not because he refused a trade, but because there is no reason to play him now.
