If this means that we don't trade Royce for that primadonna b**** Howard, then I am all for it!

Spotted the error in the Asik math... deal with Houston being reported as $25 million... in actuality most he could get is $23.1 million

Does anyone think we can get Dwight and keep him here? He seems determined to get to Brooklyn. I personally rather not go after him and waste a year of whether he will opt to stay or leave.

Don't know much of Asik, so I have no major thoughts, but he provides defense at Center, then I'm for it.

If the Bulls match, there is a good chance we can trade for Noah. Those two would be eating too much cap space. So let's say Martin, Scola for Noah and a filler - the Bulls would then amnesty Boozer and have a legitimate starting 5 to win a chamiponship with.

So lets bring Brad Newley from overseas and get ready for the all white matchup vs the timbs.

Asik Scola Parsons Newley Gogi vs Pekovic Love Bud Ridnour Rubio

One more thing: Leaving aside the $15M third season, even the $5M cap hit that Asik's contract will have in the upcoming season is kind of a b**** for Chicago.

Basically, if they match the contract, the $5M will cause them to pay the luxury tax unless they dump some significant money and sign nothing but minimum wage scrubs. Spefifically, the luxury tax threshhold is likely to be $70.3M or so (last year's #), the Bulls have close to $65M guaranteed on 8 guys. This would include 0 PG other than the injured Rose. Adding Asik would have them at 9 guys and close to $70M, needing to add 4 more players. NBA minimum wage is $474K for rookies and $762K for older guys. They can match by getting rid of salary in trades or maybe amnesty Boozer, but those are going to be painful steps (salary dumps can cost you future picks, for example, and amnestied Boozer will still need to be paid). Matching Asik really puts them in a bind immediately, not just 2 years from now.

RT @johnhollinger: By my reading, most Asik can get on 3-year deal is $23.1M. Breaks out 5.0 yr 1, 5.2 yr 2, 12.9 yr 3.

Someone tweeted that the 3rd year is like 12.9 or something due to that.

I actually wish it was 5, 5, 15...because that way, in the last year of the contract, he'd be a huge expiring contract to teams.

or we aren't worried enough about having another "true center" on the roster in what is likely a throwaway year, especially if that "true center" is an unproven oaf who we have to pay $8 MM/year.

Signing Asik, looks like they have quietly bowed out of the Dwight Howard sweepstakes.

like I said in one of the other asik threads, this move is straight up mauryballin' and I love it. now if you can get camby for 3 million, the center position comes out at a cheap price.
I mean Kendrick had 4 years at 36 million? and the dude can't cover as much ground as asik.

Now sign Camby, and we'll have a decent defensive backstop-- as long as we don't go small (really the only thing McHale did that made me wonder) in the 4Qs...
