Bima, How can you say that Eric Gordon is a max player? You can't be serious. $12 mil, maybe, but a max player? Please justify this position, if you care to. I don't see how this is any different than the Hawks convincing themselves that Joe Johnson was a max player.
Martin would be well situated to ease Rivers into the League. (Add Scola and Voila! Stern voids the deal ).
It's the way, only way, to get his signature on a Rox contract and not matched by NOLA. And, at his age? Yeah, I'm aboard. Why wouldn't you be? BTW - - how far is 12m from the max? Less than Lee's contract will be.
I'd rather take a chance with Gordan and any of his injuries than take a chance with Howard with his injuries and the risk of him being just a rental.
One thing to note: The term "max player" should not be thrown around cassually. Joe Johnson's "max" was 6 years, $124 million. Eric Gordon's "max" is 4 years, $55 or $58 mil (depending on how the NBA salary calculations comes out in a few days). Is Eric Gordon not worth 4 years at $13.7M or $14.5M or so per year? Here's a guy who is capable of scoring at both a high volume and a high efficiency-- volume scoring on a bad team is easy, but doing so at a high efficiency is a whole different story. Deadly outside shooter and gets to the foul line frequently. Only 6'3'' but very strong and plays taller than his height due to being muscular and having a long 6'9'' wingspan.
I love Eric Gordon as a player and I would love to have him. He would be worth the max if you were convinced you could account for his past injuries and be relatively sure they were over/low chance of being recurrent.
The only reason I wouldnt want to throw in Lowry into the mix for Gordon is that Im still holding out hope that Lowry would be a critical piece in case there is a deal with Orlando. I would be happy to part with Martin and a young guy or two in return for Gordon. Gordon would be a HUGE addition. Dragic Gordon Parsons DMo Howard
gordon is def worth the max....HES THE NEXT GENERATIONS TOP SG. think about it...kobe on decline...wade decline...name another SG with his much skill. he also plays both sides of the court, and is pretty good at D. Im a big hoosiers fan so obviously im biased, but we would be stupid not to build around him. bringing him is the first step in bringing other players here.
Yes, sir, I know. He has to make the rounds and see if he even wants to try to break free of the RFA tractor beam. If NO would take a Kentucky boy (Ppat or Tjones) or both (but they're both PF like The Brow) and Morris and the Dallas pick, I'd be ok. Don't give'em Lamb or D-Mo and especially not Rolls Royce, Morey! Or Lowry, and we get back Jarrett Jack. Something to make it even, I guess. Whatever that might be.
Short term gain at best, long term loss if Gordon doesn't recover. This type is exactly what Les and DM need to avoid.
NO wants to look for a potential healthy replacement for their best player when healthy. That is a big red flag,if KM for instance doesn't work out for them, his expiring contract won't hurt them. If Lamb does well, they keep him for cheap. Gordon when healthy is very nice, but Lee and Martin when healthy plus Lamb can help us more than him. If D-Mo is included in a package for him, he needs to be canned.
Agreed. His health concerns is quite alarming... but if healthy no doubt would be a max deal type player.
Again, the Hornets are apprehensive about offering the max to Gordon (clearly the superior player here) after he missed almost the entire season for them. This is not apples to apples. The financial commitment to Gordon would be 4 years, $55 million. The financial commitment to Martin would be one year, $12.4 million. The money at least begins to even things out for them. Then, add in the extra prospects into the trade, and you've got something the Hornets have to at least strongly consider. They may say no, but you know they're thinking about it. As CH alluded to, the max salary for players with 0-4 years of NBA experience is $12.9 million. So, I suppose we're pretty close to agreeing with one another. I think a starting salary of $12.9 million is at least within reason for Gordon, assuming that the Rockets are comfortable enough that his injuries will not continue to nag him throughout his career. My prior post is clearly based on that premise, which may or may not be true.
Thanks for clearing up what "the max" really means with regard to Gordon. I could get comfortable at $12 mil per if the medical checks out, but his injury track-record certainly is concerning. He may command $12 mil, but he doesn't deserve that. You really need to play at least a couple of full seasons to command that kind of money in my opinion. But i'm a realist, and know that we have to over pay given our situation. It's certainly more of a risk than i would like though. That said, it's not just the injury history or the expensive contract that concerns me. It's the idea of trading away young talent for him. It might have been worth it while he was on a rookie-scale contract, like when New Orleans aquired him as part of the Chris Paul deal, but now he's gonna be either over-paid, or paid at market value. It's hard to rationalize giving up a boat-load for him on that contract. My point is that i honestly think that two lotto picks and kevin martin might be too much. For me, it would come down to which particular players were included in the deal. I don agree with the idea of N.O. picking any two they want.
I am definitely on board with Gordon. I made a thread earlier this season about wanting to acquire him but the board did not seem wild about him. This guy has game and I'm willing to take the risk even with injury history. I actually hope that the Hornets are willing to take a package of Martin and young players to get this deal through.
If the Rockets were not endlessly stuck in mediocrity, I would probably agree with you. Unfortunately, the Rockets have now reached that tipping point where they HAVE to use what they have--nice assets in high quantity--in order to trade for higher quality players. Now's the time to make something happen. If they wait too long and allow 3-4 top prospects to rot on the bench, they'll be worse off for it in a year.
