Would give up Martin (and also Patterson/Morris), but not any of the rookies.

Kevin Martin also had the injury prone label when he came to Houston. The only injury he had while here was the shoulder towards the end of the season.

Yep. Adding Gordon and still having roster flexibility would be impressive. I just worry you end up with a Hawks-like team.

I think Lamb (or I suppose it could be Lowry if Rivers can be slotted into either backcourt slot) almost certainly goes in any deal, but I think I'd bite. If the other player involved was Marcus Morris, I wouldn't be too hurt.

Well we don't really now what they want. This blogger, Hornets247, who claims to have an inside source, seems kind of shady.

I do think Rocket would pursue a sign and trade route for Gordon, but doubt they would open their roster up and just have the Hornets have any prospect of their choosing. I would think in order to retain as many assets as possible the Rockets would low ball them first, and increase their offer steadily from the original offer.

But yeah Kyle Lowry to the Hornets, with other assets, seems like a good fit. That trade package you described would make perfect sense for both teams involved.

I love Eric Gordon's game. He's definitely one of the best young SG's in the game with Kobe, Wade, Manu, JJ etc getting up there in age/injuries etc.

I'd take Gordon over James Harden any day and that's the way I felt even prior to Harden struggling in the Finals and tearing it up against the Spurs. I'd be happy to offer Gordon the Max and build around him.

Not necessarily. Remember, part of the allure of this deal from New Orleans's perspective is KEVIN MARTIN. Dell Demps really likes him. I think Martin is the Hornets' starting SG in this scenario, with Rivers also playing some SG. I don't think there would be the necessity for another SG who would command minutes.

Meanwhile, if Gordon comes here for the max, I think Courtney Lee's days as a Rocket would be over, with the Rockets running out a SG rotation of Gordon and Lamb.

Yep yep yep, a Martin/Patterson sign and trade would, I think, be enough for Gordon.

That leaves enough spare parts and/or cash to acquire another legitimate player, obviously (hopefully) a big man.

I wonder if Kyle Lowry is one guy that the Hornets would want. I know they talked about having Rivers rung the point next to Gordon, bu is Austin "2.1 Assists Per Game" Rivers really a PG? Reminds me of another highly touted wanna-be PG: O.J. Mayo, and Mayo at least averaged 3.3 APG in college.

He has visits scheduled with other teams in the upcoming days, of course he has to say he's open to hear from everyone now.

If I'm the Hornets, I'm trying to accumulate young talent. I take Martin because other recent first round picks come duct taped to him.

Assuming the Hornets are serious about Austin Rivers at the 1, they need a long term solution at the 2. Martin allows them to get used to winning now, and they can groom the starter at the same time. Even better for them, he's an expiring they can possibly flip at the deadline to a contender for young talent/picks.

That's why I think Lamb would be their first option. My guess is they'd also ask for Patterson, Motie, or Terrence Jones (Anthony Davis' teammate).

I don't really buy Rivers as a PG either, but maybe he could see some time there as a 6th man type. Would anybody consider Lowry + Martin (and nothing else added into the deal) in exchange for Gordon? Rivers could come off the bench at both guard positions for them.

To me that is zero allure. And probably would be for any clear thinking GM who already has Gordon.

To add to the previous point regarding giving up too many of the young guys: Even if you give up 2 of the younger guys for Eric Gordon, sign Asik, bring back Dragic and Camby, trade Scola and Martin, the Rockets will still have at least a couple of 1st or 2nd year guys who will have to learn from the bench. Giving up 2 good prospects in a deal for Gordon is really not that big a loss to the Rockets.
