I don't consider it luck when yoru defense plays bad or one opponent turns beast. You guys were lucky because opponents missed wide open shots in bunches.
Absolutely, this team has balls. Same people saying Spain wouldn't win the WC after they lost against Switzerland were the ones saying they wouldn't make it to final this summer. They find a way and it frustrates (Germany) fans because their team can't win ugly. They have to win big or the pressure seems too much. Germany chokes when it counts. Spain gets lucky alot. Both are equal comments then.
If you rewatch the chances, tell me if you repeat these situations like ten times, how many times would Spain come out without a loss? The answer is not good for Spain. That's my whole point and you can't seem to face it.
The problem is, if Germany would've won the tournament we still would've admitted that we were very lucky to advance because of the games vs. Portugal and Denmark where we faced death multiple times. Now you are sitting here and acting as if Spain was never in danger, that's just pure ignorance. And you are even making it worse with the uncalled shots at Germany.
No one is saying that Spain was never in any danger. And they are not uncalled shots at Germany. The points I have made against Germany are very valid. I am a fan of Germany and have rooted for them in the Euro as well as World Cup. if you are n doubt, you are welcome to see my posts in this thread. I think it was sour grapes and disrespectful calling a team lucky throughout and after they have won the Cup. Why not just address your own team and see what can be done to improve it (As a fan of the German team I am concerned about their defense)? Why not just congratulate the other team and move on instead of trying to rain on their parade? I find that classless. Here is an example of class. Posted by a Dutch fan after Spain won...
^^ I never had problems with you, but you're full of **** on that one. Then acting as if you didn't took shots at Germany(which were no point of the argument) is pathetic. I'm not sour grapes and admitted they played good after the group stage and great today, am I not allowed to say the truth and criticize certain things? Do you want the whole media to write 100% positive things and brush away all negative aspects about the winner of each title? Reeko is like the biggest Spain homeboy in the world and even he admitted that I'm correct on certain things. I don't get why you act like a lil b.... and are in denial about my points.
Calling out Germany's holes in defense and their inability to show up in the later stages in the last two tournaments = uncalled shots? I call them facts. Hopefully Germany does not brush the issues aside before the next World cup. *laugh*
man, just got to say what a run by italy. I have nothing but great pride in what this team was able to overcome. no one expected anything from this team and they proved the whole world wrong. we were unlucky with injuries in this game, if we took are chances and didnt lose a player in the second half maybe we could of had a little comeback. But my god Spain are damn good. Totally deserved this Euro 2012. What a team.
My whole point was about Spain and you bringing up a different team just proves that you can't actually reply or are in denial. Like I said, watch the tape of there group games vs. Italy and Croatia. You'll never repeat your standpoint again after that. And never again put the word "class" in your mouth, even after you dismissed taking shots at Germany you come up with this hateful post.
Agree, Italy was the surprise of the tournament, totally unexpected for me. Seems you have a bright future ahead.
Classy fan. Yeah Italy had a good run. Hopefully Balotelli keeps his head together. If he can he should be great for you guys in WC.
Forgot to give credit to Italy. Pirlo and Buffon are the heart of that team. Please don't allow Balotelli to take the reins of the culture, he's a douche.
That's the biggest flaw with him. He could be world class level if he could keep his cool and just keep his mind in the game. He's soccers Ron Artest. Can snap at a moments notice or dominate the game.
Congrats Spain, I love their read and react passing attack - reminds me of Adelman's BBall offense. DD
I think there is a clear distinction between calling a team "perfect" and calling them "great". I'm sure it would be really easy to analyze the 70s Brasil side and point out their deficiencies, runs of luck, or critique the quality of their opposition. I don't think it is a stretch by any means to call this Spanish side the greatest of all time. I certainly agree that it is quite debatable, but they HAVE accomplished things that no other team in history has. Record number of consecutive shutout minutes. Record number of consecutive shutout minutes in knockout games. Possession dominance. Only team in history to win back-to-back Euros. Only team in history with a player scoring in back-to-back Euros, and only team in history with a player assisting in back-to-back Euros (Torres and Xavi). That speaks to their continuity. One player completed a mind boggling 550 passes (Xavi). And a world cup to boot. Add to that the peripheral aura of the club championships that most of these players have won - Champions league trophies, league trophies, FA cup trophies, even the world club championship. No, it's not a stretch to call them the GOAT. But certainly worth debating.
Daaamn, 4-0??? I stopped watching at halftime when it was 2-0. I thought Italy would at least get one back. What the hell happened? Anyway, congrats to Spain I guess. Torres was a beast!
Speaking of Torres, I think Del Bosque made him look better than he really was. Torres did most of his damage in situations where the opponent was weak or severely weakened (started against the woeful Ireland side, and came on today with Italy one man down and the game already well in hand). Del Bosque clearly made the right choice going back to his 4-6-0 with Fabregas today.
Yup Torres was great for all of 5 minutes and two plays when Italy was done and handed to him on a platter. If only he could do that consistently then he would actually start on the national team. Having said that, Spain just played well on all fronts. The central defense neutralized Italy's attack. Couple that with Spain's possession game and you got a nasty recipe for success. Balotelli had the ability to counter and pick apart a weak central defense but when it came to Spain, they held their ground and nothing could be done. Torres is like Gomez in a lot of ways. Their confidence just swings back and forth. They can be brilliant and world class one game and then the next they just disappear.
