I would take STEVE Martin over Kevin Martin!

 

First off, I like Martin. I think somewhere down the line last year there was a fallout between Martin and the organization. Kmart's a solild player and contributed while healthy here. Unfortunatley, it's obvious he's not interested in staying here. I think the Rockets are forcing his hand in requesting out of Houston (ex: Tmac, Brooks, Lowry, Adelman etc). Hopefully he wont leave disgruntled like every player does here

 

The fallout was over him not playing defense. Coaches get touchy about that.

 

I think that you are right on with this.

 

Martin's future with the Rockets is probably tied to Howard in one of two ways:

1. Ideally, Rox can keep Martin and trade for Howard. (Martin would be a great floor spacer with Howard in the post and his defensive woes wouldn't be as huge with a premier rim protector behind him. Asik too I guess? Martin is also a hefty expiring that may help the cap flexibility going into next summer...Chris Paul?)

2. He's 12m expiring used to acquire Howard from the Magic.

Unless there is a big offer for him in the interim, I think we're going all in on the Howard chase and Martin has high value either way.

Worst case we keep him and "the powder stays dry" until next offseason.

Agreed. I luv Kmart's game and with some new studs underneath his suck defense can be covered up more. Yes excellent trade bait, but boy, when he gets it going there really aren't many in the league who can keep up.

They will sign him on a max contract and then amnesty him.

 

Plan on Martin as our starting SG next season. He will probably put up 20+ ppg a game. He may become a huge asset at the trade deadline.

And in case you had not heard, Dally was gone a month ago as reported on CF. Bad attitude.

 

Losing two top ten players in the NBA in the span of two seasons will do that to you.

 

They are planning on playing him, then using him as a PRable large expiring at the trade deadline to a team that wants salary relief without looking like they traded just to save salary to their fans. He will be more valuable that way under the new CBA than he has ever been for his skills.

 

I would prefer just to amnesty him. I would be perfectly okay with letting, Jeremy Lamb and Courtney Lee, man the SG position this upcoming season.

But he is a top 10 in ppg every year (except when he is hurt). His defense you can scheme around using Lowry and Parson and a shot blocking 5. And you never ever amnesty a player on the last year of their contract. Duh.
