@ESPNSteinLine: Word is Nets' deal with Gerald Wallace, originally forecast to be in the three-year, $24 million range, more likely to be a four-year pact

The Nets have reached agreement on a 4 year, $40 million contract with Gerald Wallace, league sources confirm. NY Post first reported.

We have the best package from the rental teams. Now that things have changed the Magic GM is taking his time to see if another team won't surface last minute.
David Aldrige made a point on NBA tv, if he was the Magice GM he would start calling teams like OKC to see if maybe they would want to work something out. I guess it's probably a long shot with OKC, but with Dwight changing his mind so much and with the Nets seemingly moving on from Dwight he may all of a sudden decide to agree to be traded and an sign the extension with another team. I mean if your OKC and you have a chance to pair Dwight with Durant I would seriously think about it especially if Dwight now all of a sudden agrees to an extension.
I guess it really is probably a long shot, but you get the idea. Other teams that might be interested in something similar are the Clippers, Lakers, Knicks. It really is still based on Dwight seeing his chances with Brooklyn dwindling and him deciding on a new team to go to.
In any cases, it would only be smart of the new Magic GM to take his time with the process and explore all of his options, no matter how unlikely they might seem. You never know if your never ask!

This is wishful thinking more than anything else that Howard will undergo some sort of (miraculous) attitude change. Look at what he's doing to Orlando - he's essentially plunged them into limbo with his behavior. You make that trade and then essentially blackmail him to stay on, he'll do the same thing here. There is NO situation that I see him buying into what ever Morey & McHale will be selling and if he's not committed to this team's goals, just how is he supposed to help them become contenders?

Well, to be fair, Orlando just hired their GM on Monday and there was a draft to execute on Thursday.

    Bwahahaha.
Make idiotic deal for declining player like Wallace that has negligble effect on your season andcosts you valuable lotto pick in deep draft?
Answer: double down by giving him large contract so you can enjoy his mid 30s

The Nets pursuit of Dwight has ended........at least until the 2013 offseason.

Well, you are right! We have the best offer based on our opinion, but you never really know what the Magic really want. However, not many teams have a center and they might not necessarily be sold on whatever centers any other team might offer. It really just depends on what direction they want to go from now and who can offer the best pieces or the most pieces to move them in that direction. In any case, it really just depends on what Magic want.

If Dwight starts twittering jokes about Houston, you know he's getting worried.

The Nets are trying to make sure they have enough in the stable to at least persuade DWill to stay. But I think they'll end up with the opposite effect. By signing Wallace and still having to pay Lopez, two players Orlando has no interest whatsoever in a sign-and-trade, they've basically put themselves out of the running for Dwight (barring a court ruling, Stern, 2013 free agency, or a 3rd party that wants Lopez/Wallce).

Will DWill be persuaded to play with these two as part of the Brooklyn big 3? Can't say never, but it doesn't help

Way to go to the extreme and use Earl Boykins as the example. I'm just trying to look at from the Orlando Magics perspective in which case I would really like to have a center back in return. Even with all of Lopez's drawbacks he is still a good young center and not a lot of teams have those.

BTW, the Magic are opening discussions on trading Dwight because they are bargaining from a position of weakness (player wants out, team wants that player out, but can't get good value because player is considered a rental to most teams and Brooklyn has no 'assets' it wants),

    AND

The Nets look like they're scrambling just to keep DWill (and doing things that take them further away from being able to trade for Dwight), and Rockets now looking at other options such as Asik. They need to trade Dwight as soon as practically possible, and they know it.

The Nets are in discussions with the Hawks for Joe Johnson...to me, its a clear sign that a trade for Howard isnt very likely.

I honestly dont see where else Howard can land other than Houston.

Money talks. He isn't going to pass up the money. I believe ultimately he will want to win. But he wants his money first. He can only get that in ORL or where ever they trade him. I don't believe he's going to waste the rest if his career b****ing.

It's between us and the Lakers at this point. Orlando is hoping to draw some other team out of the woodwork with this announcement. Perhaps Chicago or Boston.
