Thats kind of my point. If a team is need of a PG they can pursue: 1. Dragic - asking for $10Mil 2. nash - who the Raptors are being reported as offering $10-$12Mil 3. Calderon - who is a more proven commodity than Dragic (don't read better), but could probably be had for 4yrs, $28Mil a year. Considering the reported money, Dragic is probably the least appealing of those 3 options. Just don't see that $10Mil contract happening.
He is worth what the market bares, if that is $10 million a year, then fine, if it is $7 million a year, fine too. Not sure why people here get so worked up about what players are paid, especially productive ones. DD
I've been hating on Asik...but if I have to give 10M to one player, it's Asik. 10 million for Goran? Lol.
Nothing to do with numbers, but Calderon is not close to as good as Dragic when you consider their entire games. Nash, however is still incredible. DD
10 million is about 17% of the Rockets salary cap. For 1 position? Is his worth 1.8 times as much as Lowry?
He is worth whatever the market says he is worth. I wonder if Mark Cuban regrets letting a young Nash go for basically $5 million total over 5 years? Why yes, yes he does...... Dragic is a very good PG, with great court vision, is a willing defender, has fantastic size and athleticism - he is going to be really good for a really long time. The Rockets may not want to overpay, but if they want to contend at some point, you have to pull your wallet out and pay your better players. DD
i realize that, but saying that it's all an assumption… Saying Goran isn't worth 10 mill a year is based off his production last season.. so if your gonna base it off that then u can't give Javale a 14 mill a year contract because he HASN'T put up 20/12 consistently.. Goran imo will improve as he gets more starts under his belt.. but u can't use one analogy for one player and not for another.. they both have room to grow, so Morey has to decide if he wants to take the risk.. and THAT is my issue with Morey.. he is not a risk taker and only takes FOR SURE things.. well this is a risk reward league and at some point he's gonna have to over pay someone.. it's part of the nba..
Just because Dragic and his agent are asking for 10 mil doesn't mean he'll get it from us or anyone else. They ask for 10, we offer 6 and they settle in the middle for about 8. Dragic will get what ever the market will bear.
Dude, if the Bobcats come out and want to pay him 11 million a year, that doesnt mean he's worth that much. It happens all the time that teams overspend to bring a player in. When you have a player in Lowry getting paid 6 million a year, you take that over a player like Goran getting paid almost twice as much. 10 million a year is ridiculous for someone that isnt an all-star.
by that same token, goran has the potential to average 18/10 with more time. potential... I'll be good with whatever maury's decision turns out to be.
a) Dragic is the better player. That was proven last season. b) Lowry signed an offer sheet with Cleveland which got matched.
Geeze you people act like it's coming out of your pocket books. Let's give morey some time to feel these free agents out. Make a decision, then see where we could go with deals to shed cap. By July 15th latest. I expect the Rockets to have improved every position on the team. Which is great. PG - is solid still even with trading disgruntled Lowry. SG - will be good. Even if we lost Lee, but its all dependent on who we get. We might still even have Martin. SF - one word.. Parsons... PF - well we have like 20 of them and whether or not Scola is here... WE will be very good at this position. McHale will play the best players from this position ideally. Like he has alrighty stated. C - Camby at the very least coming off the bench, and either Asik, Hibbert, Brook Lopez (dependent on if Dwight sign with Nets), or some other player named Dwight. Bottomline is this team will be better. And yes we will be a top 4-6 team next year. Have some faith in Les and Rockets organization....
we arent a good team and our GM never overpays by much especially with him having to many players on the roster as it is.
It had nothing to do with putting the team first... it was indeed an offer sheet. he couldn't receive more....
