His previous team the clippers sucked...this point is not valid...he will not get the Rockets over the hump
It's not just comparing 2 or maybe even 3 rookies to Gordon in worth, it's looking at the big picture. Not only would the Rockets give up young players but Gordon, while extremely talented, is as injury prone as they come. A S&T would mean he's probably coming over with his potential max contract. Paying all that money to a guy who has never played a whole 82 game season and only played in 9 games last year is a risk that could handcuff this franchise financially. Trading (potentially) 3 high upside players for him is adding to that risk.
This rumor could have legs if Austin Rivers turns out to be a starter at the 2. But right now it would be to early for them to really know that. It could benefit them to get some low cost assets for the Eric Gordon instead of letting him walk for nothing. They (hornets) could play Martin for at least the first half of the season and flip him for another asset later or just let him come off the book and have cap space. I would not be shocked by some kind of deal with them. I doubt they want any of the 3 players we just drafted they could have took any one of them at 10. Unless they picked Rivers for us because they knew a deal was coming?
I don't like the idea of giving up Monte/White/Lamb/Parsons for a 6'3 guard with injury troubles. There's always the fear the player you trade away could become special and make you look bad (Richard Jefferson). But I trust our front office to evaluate risk/talent better than I ever could.
This would be a great pickup. Top 5 NBA SG who's 23 and defends well. Would be an attractive piece for another superstar. And we'd still have the Lowry, Scola trading chips
I've has enough with injury prone players. Giving up that much for an injury prone player is stupid, certainly this is not legit.
Uh, guys, Kevin Martin isn't that durable either. Giving up 2 unproven rookies to upgrade from a Martin when healthy to a Gordon when healthy is not that unreasonable.
Uh, two of our rookies + Kevin Martin is worth more than Eric Gordon, imo. Plus, it isn't as though Gordon has a clean bill of health. If Gordon had Russell Westbrook's health - i.e missing only something like 4 games in his entire career - then I'd be more willing to part with our end.
If he was that healthy, he would be untouchable and would have gotten an offer from the team a while ago.
What does Kevin Martin's durability have to do with it? He has no real future on this team. Giving max money to a guy that just missed almost all of last season due to injuries is a pretty big risk. I'm not sure it's worth it when you don't have another star to pair him with on the team.
Martin has an expiring contract while Gordon will probably be coming over with a 5 yr/65 mil contract fresh off a season in which he played in only 9 games
Can any one explain what Gordon has in his nba career that makes him such a special talent. Is he worth Lamb + Kevin Martin ?
