Howard, Bynum, or Hibbert. If we cant figure something for them, then cut our losses and save cap space for the future. Without an addition of an all-star this season, then we are not going anywhere...and a top 5 pick in next year's draft is better than Asik and the #14 pick in next years draft.

We havent had a center in years, so I dont get why we NEED to get one right now, if its not a real center we could build around. I dont like the idea of having Asik come off the bench in a couple years while making 6-7 million per season.

He is also overpaid and Bulls' owner is very cheap and soon to be in Salary Hell(tm).

The purpose of a defense if not to stop the opposing center from scoring, but to stop the opposing team from scoring. While Asik was on the court, the opposing team scored 92.7 points per 100 possession in 2010-11 and 91.0 points per 100 possession in 2011-12. The Bulls are a good defensive team overall, but their #s with Asik on the court is much better than their #s with Asik sitting.

Beyond the +/- numbers, Asik does everything you can ask a center to do: challenge shots in the paint, rebound the ball, and even trap the pick'n'roll all the way out to the 3 point line and recover (which many of the slower-footed center cannot do). He's also smart with his assignment/rotations.

Also, just because Hawes and Mullens scored points when Asik started, it doesn't mean Asik was defending them or even on the court when they scored these points.

So for you it's either all star center or no center at all? Asik isn't going to get us a 14th seed if we get him and go young. I am all for not adding small pieces that will only get us a few more wins and result in a worse lottery pick but I just don't see Asik as a guy that is going to win us even 3 more games just by his signing. However, I do see him as a guy that can be a quality defense center on a good team in 2-3 years.

Lastly, Asik at $5-6MM/yr is likely something that Orlando would take in a trade later on in the season if we still try to acquire Howard.

It's not always the case, but Noah probably spent a higher % of his time with Boozer than Asik did. I like Noah, too. More expensive, not as strong or tall. But better offensively. Good high post passer and can make a jump shot and free throw.

I'm on board with this free-agent pursuit. I Like his physicality and physical tools inside the paint. The guy can rebound, block and alter shots at the rim. He has a great physical brand of basketball, that would compliment Donatas finesse style. Asik and Donatas would make a great front line.

You can also attribute that to Asik playing against the opposing teams bench players. Anyone can pull and manipulate stats to advance their argument we all know that Asik is nothing special. If you are happy with him getting around 6 million per than we have nothing to discuss. I am all for giving a guy that would be an average starting center that kind of money but absolutely nothing more. Asik does not get us any closer to a championship and if we overpay him we may lose out on the real prize........HOWARD or BYNUM.

You guys are ridiculous saying we should get hawes instead. Hawes is exactly what we don't need. A center who stands on the outside shooting jump shots all day. A guy who gets dunked on every other second on D. A softy, now ill give him respect where do. He can shoot, rebound decently well and is crafty for a center but we don't need that right now. We need a aggressive tough nosed center who can rebound well, defend well, protect the paint, stay above the rim on offense and D. Thats asik, thats exactly what we need. Now i am not overrating him thats just what he does. What he doesn't do is anything at all on offense besides dunks and layups, but thats fine. We really don't need that and we don't need him to stuff stats like hawes, just be a hustle player. So everybody please shut the ***** up with this hawes nonsense.

So we're trying to obtain our back up center, but who will be be backing up?? Guess we will have to wait and see.

if we can get Asik for 6 or 7 millions per year is a steal

According to this article Bulls will match unless its a really back loaded deal.

If we can get Asik for less than 6 million a year, count me in...I just dont see him as the starting center on a championship team (If in fact, we are building towards that). Its much easier to be effective in 12 minutes of game play than it is in 35 min of game action. Therefore, the numbers on Asik can be very misleading because youre assuming the same level of production over a time span that is 3 times longer. If anything, the level of production would decrease.

I would want Asik as the back up center...not the starting center. Im definitely looking forward to seeing how he pans out. Either he'll make me look like a total douche bag or the majority of CF will look like fools.

I guarantee you that frontline would never win a championship. McHale needed Parish, Gasol needed Bynum, same thing with the Bad Boy Pistons and any other championship Center and power forward combo and Rockets aren't making history they couldn't even make the playoffs last year.

Assume my argument for signing him is only if he is making $6MM or less. I don't think signing him for more than that is worth it.

I'm in. Asik has taken his game to another level since he's been working at All American Burger.
