So I'm guessing the four team blockbuster trade that includes Bynum to Houston is not happening?

Keep in mind one thing when considering the #s from that series: It was a very slow paced series (not many possessions) involving two of the slowest paced teams in the league. Slower pace = not as many opportunities to put up stats.

Forget Asik. Sell the farm and hope for a Bobkittens-esque season behind Dragic, Parsons, and the rooks. Then, pick Cody Zeller, or maybe Nerlens Noel, in next summer's draft. Repeat for one more season. Boom, Les has an up-and-coming contender.

Williams, Beasley and a lot of cap relief? Probably a draft choice +.

yea, he is a bit overrated here. He's definitely not a Star or an All-Star, but he has been getting better each year and still has the upside to be seriously considered a continuous starter.

Asik is a very good BACKUP center. He is not a starting center because he is terrible on offense, has match up problems, gets in foul trouble and tires easily.

However as a reserve he is very good. For 20 minutes he hustles, plays hard and is an elite defender.

FYI, the Bulls have added incentive to scare away offers for Asik. Because Asik is an Early Bird free agent, the most the Bulls can offer him themselves is a contract worth approximately 4 years, $25 million. His starting salary would be a maximum of about $5.62M. These figures won't be known for sure until the end of the July Moratorium.

(In case you are curious, unless a team has sufficient cap room to re-sign an Early Bird free agent, he cannot receive more than the greater of (a) 175% of his prior year's salary or (b) 104.5% of the prior season's average salary. The 2011-12 estimated average salary is $5.38M but will not be known for sure until the number-crunchers figure them out during the July Moratorium. Also, Early Bird rights only allow the player's team to sign him for a maximum of four years.)

However, if another team comes calling for Asik and signs him to an offer sheet--which will be subject to the "Arenas Rule"--it would likely result in the Bulls having to pay Asik a TON more money if they matched.

It is actually far and away in Asik's BEST INTERESTS to find a team to sign him to an offer sheet, as it is the only way he can get a contract greater than 4 years, $25M this summer. He can't even sign a one-year deal with Chicago for a big raise, with the hopes of signing a huge deal next summer with full Bird rights, since the CBA prohibits this. An Early Bird contract must be a minimum of two (non-option) years, so Asik would either have to (1) be underpaid for TWO more years or (2) instead sign a one-year deal with Chicago using Non-Bird rights, which could only pay him just under $2.23M next season.

Bottom line: Chicago is scared to death of other teams signing Asik to an offer sheet, as they have so much to gain by scaring all other teams off and being able to lock Asik in to a long-term deal on the (relative) cheap. Meanwhile, Asik and his agent are probably going to be very receptive to what Daryl Morey (or almost any other team's GM) has to say about contract offers and would most likely end up signing an offer sheet with another team (possibly Houston), daring the Bulls to match.

Far as bad as some of you make Asik out to be its kind of hard to think that a legit contender like Chicago would want to bring him back.

Well, even if we accept your numbers, you admit Camby is a center.

Asik is a defensive presence with legit height and a subpar offensive game. There are several better centers out there, but not really that many that we might get.

I'd try to trade for one first. We can offer Scola, Martin, PPat and possibly Morris, a pick or Lowry - perhaps we get Noah for a decent package or Bynum, perhaps even Marc Gasol or Bogut.

But right now, I am happy with any young center with decent height and a good defensive game. So why not Asik? I'd be ok with the signing. He won't ever be the centerpiece of a team, but he solves one problem that we desperately need to solve.

I want him. Pretty sure Indiana will match any offer on Hibbert so Asik is gonna be the best and most realistic C we can get.

I highly doubt that we could swing a trade for Howard or Bynum so signing Asik without overpaying would be a solid addition.

    In your studied opinion:
what is Asik worth to the Bulls?
what is Asik worth to the Rox?
what is Asik worth to a 'third' team?
could this be a ploy by DM the GM to drive Bulls into a larger Noah trade?

    Thanks for your insight...x...

    I don't know.
    I'm not sure.
How could I possibly answer this question?
    Eh...maybe?

Was that insightful enough for you? :p
