With the current roster it's impossible to guess how will be and will change our cap situation along the summer. What if the Rockets need at a given moment the cap space to bid for an Asik? Would they be forced to renounce to Lee's cap hold?
Problem with giving Lee $6mil per (aside from the fact that he's not worth it), is that two years from now, when Lamb comes into his own, having a $6 mil backup will not be a good use of financial resources; to put it mildly.
Would like to keep him but a SnT would be great as well. Clippers had interest in him at the deadline maybe Morley can work something out.
Lee is a good 2 way player, he is worth 6 mill a year for 4 years, then in 4 years if lamb is still here and pans out, start lamb. I like the idea of lee defending lamb in practice, lee has value outside of just scoring. That being said, i wouldnt go higher than 6 mill.
So this means DM will offer "a bit less than MLE" money so he'll take the MLE. 4-5 M max is what gets it done hopefully.
He's a good player, but not starters material imo. His basketball IQ is questionable at times and he goes through stretches where he can't buy a basket. His defense is good but a bit overrated. He had problems guarding guys like Andre Miller and Gordon coming off injury who didn't play most of the year. He is an asset, so if the Rockets can sign him and flip him later on I would be fine with that.
Didn't he start on the Magic when they went to the Finals? I guess that means something. Anyway, I think it's rather telling that Morey hasn't come out to explicitly state that he will match whatever offer sheet Lee signs as he did with Lowry and Scola in years past. Maybe Da'Rel's just trying to play it cool and hoping that he signs one for the MLE. I don't necessarily see Morey keeping him long term with Lamb waiting in the wings, but I also definitely don't see him letting him walk for nothing.
Your crazy if you think a 20 year old lamb who's never played a minute of NBA ball is a better defender than lee. Lee is a glue player and we'll need him as a starter next year and hopefully as a 6th man down the road. Lee will be back next year. Mori understands value and lee is a value player at the MLE
Lee's good but he hasn't proven that he's worth starter $ I'd rather use that kind of money toward Dragic or Asik.
