One baseball official familiar with the discussions told ESPN.com's Jayson Stark that the Dodgers and Astros agreed on the framework of the trade before presenting it to Lee for approval. Although rumors have circulated about a 2-for-1 deal, the Astros would receive just one minor leaguer from the Dodgers. One name in play is right-handed pitching prospect Garrett Gould, who abruptly was scratched from his start Friday for Class A Rancho Cucamonga.

The oficial also told Stark the Dodgers would pay a significant chunk of the more than $8 million remaining on Lee's salary.

    Some of you are terrible.

Was anyone calling Lance Berkman a POS for refusing a trade to the CWS a couple years ago? How he must not give a damn about winning and how he has no respect for baseball?

I called him a POS for mailing it in and being out of shape. I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to play for Ozzie Guillen.

Exactly. I still will call Berkman a POS of **** for keeping 25 extra lbs of fat on him just so we can have announcers constantly remind us what a great athlete he is though. Well guess what, fat never helps an athlete. He didn't give a damn about being the best he could be and he didn't give a damn to honor the money fans were paying him. The White Sox were the most dysfunctional team and baseball. Now I don't expect a player to go anywhere a team trades them just to help out the team, so no....in that case I wasn't surprised or too upset he didn't want to go there. He ultimately decided competing was worth it and went to the Yankees though, didn't he? A much more competitive team.

He sucked in NY, spent the offseason getting in shape for the first time in his life and scored a contract. Proving what an ******* he was....he got in shape when it affected his checkbook.

Oh no....a poster that can't stand another opinion that they don't fully agree with is ignoring me. What a p***y...how do you make it through real life where ignoring people that don't agree with you is less of an option.

Maybe someone can quote this for me since I'm sure he has his butthurt head in the sand by nown.

I remember when I wanted James Loney to replace Berkman. Glad I wasn't the GM.

I don't hold any grudge towards Carlos, because it is the contract he agreed to and signed, and the Astros at the time also agreed to it. However, if I were the Astros I would make sure that he knows 1) they aren't going to take a bad deal to make sure he goes somewhere he wants, and 2) they aren't going to guarantee his playing time the rest of the year, and they should let some younger guys play and see what they can do.

the astros really don't have any leverage on your 1st point. any deal that he agrees to on his no-trade list would be a good deal.

I had to make an account just to say that some of you are totally ridiculous. Carlos Lee is a piece of **** for not wanting to uproot his life for 2-3 months? It's obviously annoying that he won't just waive his NTC but it's not all about winning for some people.

I'll agree that he has the right to fully exercise the disgusting contract Purpura gave him. And I hope we let him know we are going to kill his value by not playing him over the next 3 months. It will cost him millions when it comes to his next FA contract.

Wouldn't we get a pair of compensation picks for losing Lee in free agency? I understand why they want to trade Lee - salary - but he's in his last year and there isn't really anyone special he's holding up (I don't consider Wallace our future 1B, and doubt they promote Singleton this soon). Is Gould better than two compensation picks? And would we really use that 9 million to improve other parts of the club - is it really a zero sum situation with Lee's contract?

I'm not saying I wouldn't do this deal - Lee is vastly overpaid and we are not in win-now mode - but unless you own the Astros and have to pay Lee's salary, there are reasons to not like this trade as well.

No the Astros wont get any compensation picks once lee leaves as a FA.

Gould is a legitimate prospect and much more than I thought the Astros could get for Lee. Forget the money involved, this trade improves the future of the Astros on the field.

The compensation system has changed. The astros will not get compensation for Lee even if he keeps playing and signs with another team next year. They would have to make him a very large qualifying offer and that will not happen. He is nowhere near a top player anymore and honestly never was. Compensation picks will just be for losing guys who actually made a legit impact on your team now. Teams who pick up guys for rentals will not get compensation picks either in the new system. Toronto has had a ton of picks by trading for a bunch of mediocre rental guys at the deadline and offering them arbitration. Those days are over.

Is the trade deadline at midnight tonight? This is the first trade offer that I have heard of for Lee. I'm sure there will be others and maybe even one to a team that makes a better offer thats not effected by the no trade clause.

Why do a get a fealing that the people saying boo and bench Carlos will be saying why would anyone want to come to the Astros after the way they treated Carlos Lee if they were to bench him.
