See Hibbert, Williams, Bosh, Howard, Gasol (last year), Fisher not wanting to come or be here...do we come off as a desperate team with a desperate manager making us an undesirable location? Is this Morey's doing? I don't remember ever feeling like the Rockets were an NBA wasteland quite as much as I do now.

Cool! An opportunity to disagree with everybody at once!

I think more players avoid us because of the way we treated McGrady.

No, its because we arent contenders. Period. No one wanted to do Minny but with Rubio and Love and other upcoming players they are more desirable. We dont have legit upcoming players, regardless of what Clutchfans say.

don't know if it has anything to do with Morey, I think it has everything to do with "no All Star" or "Center Piece" to play with. In the past we had Hakeem so obviously everybody wanted to come to Houston. We then had Yao ..who do we have now? Lowry? Scola? especially when their names are thrown in for possible trades every other hour.

Some of Morey's comments haven't helped; the whole asset, money ball thing. Has he alienated GM's and players, possibly, hard to know for sure? My guess is yes, but the lottery status is likely the big thing. Attractions should be the tax situation, housing prices, and the China connection. There are some really pretty places to live. Maybe not like Miami or San Francisco, but still attractive (Sugarland, Bay area, Galveston Island, etc.)

People have always said that about the world in general ... and how it can be an immediate disqualifying result. Desperation tends to scare people away, like with Jehovah's Witnesses. Though, our team just doesn't have any thing spectacular going on with it.

I would say Utah and Phoenix (even Indiana) are not necessarily glamorous cities, but they always seem to land on their feet at some point. Which has more to do with the franchise than anything. Houston is just going through a down period, while you could say that our conservative, yet unique moneyball efforts really doesn't matter to upper tier players. They either want to go to a team who can win, a team who can dish out alot of money, or give them alot more fame (which also tied to money).

For an upcoming star or even decent starter, the perks to living in a big market are much more substantial than smaller market. There's difference being an average player in Milwaukee versus New York. Houston's definitely not a small city, but it's not New York or LA. It's not necessarily about raw numbers, it's about media influence and advertising.

Again, even throwing all of that out of the window, the Rockets haven't been a solid playoff team, since Yao Ming left. If he were healthy, you would've seen several higher caliber players come through the door.

There's no attraction to the team, right now.

I don't think they hate us, but they do see that he is willing to trade anyone at any time, and probably take that into consideration when deciding whether to sign with the Rox or not.

    Definitely...

Even someone like James Harden or John Wall could come here and it would attract another fairly accomplished or upcoming NBA player or talented.

I don't even think we have any players in top 20 in the NBA (no order/not a ranking):

    LeBron
    Kobe
    Durant
    Howard
    Love

    (Rose)
    Wade
    Paul
    C.Anthony
    Nowitzki
    Westbrook

    D.Williams
    T.Parker
    Aldridge
    P.Gasol/M.Gasol
    C.Bosh

Rondo (16 without Derrick Rose, 17)
    P.Pierce
    A.Bynum
    S.Nash
    J.Harden
    B.Griffin
    KG
    R.Gay
    T.Duncan
    M.Ginobili
    A.Stoudemire
    Z.Randolph
    R.Hibbert
    A.Igoudala
    A.Horford
    J.Smith
    J.Johnson

Young stars upcoming: Cousins, Rubio, Wall, Lin, A.Davis, K.Irving, T.Lawson,S.Curry, and rookies from this last draft.

Good post. I think you just answered the two major reasons why players avoid playing for the Rockets. It is not avoiding Houston, the city, by any means. I lived in Chicago previously and I loved it there but Houston is a great city too and I equally love living here now.

My sources tell me that their contacts' sources close to those familiar with every player in the nba that Daryl Morey is definitely the reason why no one wants to be a Houston Rocket.

This is absolutely not pointless speculation just because I'm not a professional basketball player in the nba.

So does every other team that doesn't already have those players.

    Morey just makes it known.

All stars want to play with other all stars, and all stars are not going to be traded unless they want to be. So I don't think superstar players even think about the fact that Morey is willing to trade roll players at any time. Does anyone really think that if we had Hakeem in his prime on the roster, or if Yao had never had any health problems, that no other stars would want to come here? If Morey took the GM job with Dallas or Miami do you think stars would suddenly not want to play there because of him? I certainly don't. I suspect the average NBA star doesn't care one way or the other about who the GM is unless he feels like he was personally screwed over in some way by that GM. And the people who are most likely to be traded at will like Camby and Dalembert were still willing to sign.

The fact is that EVERY team is willing to trade their non-franchise level players at will, and so the Rockets aren't really unique in that aspect to dislike them any more than any other team.

That's the problem. Close them legs and be discreet about it.

thread says maury is hated, two stars.
thread says maury is loved, two stars.
    make up your minds!

don't forget the internal ones...The fuhrer, Scola who threw out there a sly comment at the end of the season, Martin, the ham, Memac, brooks though brooks should hate the soul taker that is manu ginobili.

Maury is the boss. If the boss is friends with you, then there is something wrong. however, today's player, fabulous diva or role player are all extra touchy about things so...yeah maury needs to not even hold a press conference. HE should be sitting behind a chair petting a cat like doctor claw.
