We aren't getting Dwight, and honestly, do we really want him if he doesn't want to come to Houston? Personally, I dont. 1. I want us to resign Dragic, Lee, and Camby. We trade Lowry, Martin, Scola and maybe even PPat. We buy out Dmos contract and bring him over. With the players we are trading, we try and trade for Josh Smith and another quality pg, we go after Krish Humphries in free agency(look at his stats before you complain). 2.We let the rookies play. Royce is going to be a baller, so jump on the bandwagon now guys. He is B. Roy on steroids, period. J. Lamb is the next R. Gay with a better outside jumper. Terrance Jones will battle with Ppat for playing time. Dmo is going to be a solid starter or player off the bench, we are all high on him, the next Dirk? Who knows, right? 3. We don't overpay for a superstar, we clear money, and we go at it like always with heart and determination. We go young because we know that they are going to play hard.(Look at OKC) Why trade away your rookies when they could be the next Durant Harden Westbrook trio? Honestly who knows how well they will play unless given the chance. Go for trade at deadline, or wait for big free agent next year. Here is our lineup if things go as I want. (Listen up MOREY)!!! PG Dragic/(free agent or trade)/Fortson SG Lee/Lamb SF Parsons/White/Morris PF J.Smith/D.Mo/Ppatt/Jones C Camby/Humphries/PPatt Your thoughts ? Is it better than last year? Can we compete?
Someone will give Humphries starter money and it won't be us. FFS, stop trying to add Josh Smith to a team stacked with quality PF's. Not really directed at OP exactly but....
Look at the lineup though, Scola is gone. Ppatt is 3rd option, Jones honestly isn't going to be on the team, J. Leuren may be a better option over ppatt as well, White is not a true PF, more of a SF.
Or we can trade Lowry, Motiejunas, Patterson, Jones, our 2013 pick and the Dallas pick for Dwight Howard.
Answer me this in all honesty. It's clear Howard does not want to be in Houston. It's clear if traded to Houston he will leave after this next year. So why do you want Howard and trade away all that for someone who doesn't want to be on the team? Now ask yourself this. Does Dmo, Lamb, White, Jones, Patterson, Lee, Parsons, Dragic etc.. want to be on the team?
Good post, op. A rational write up on what this organization needs to do I, instead of the pie in the sky, drug-induced fantasies engaged by many here.
Thanks. This is something realistic, something that is within reach. For the poster that said someone will give Humphries a lot of money, why not match it? The guy is underrated and little known because he was on a very very bad team, but the guy plays hard and rebounds really well.
We're not talking about Andrew Bogut or Marcin Gortat. Dwight Howard is the best Center since Shaquille O'Neal, and it still may be possible to acquire him. It's worth the risk dude. We have a chance, while slim, to build around a top 5 player in the league, and the most dominant post player in the game. He can rebound, block shots, alter shots, and score at an efficient rate in the post. The roster, as constructed now, is destined for a 12-14 pick or a 1st round playoff exit. We need a star to build around. If we do the trade I suggested, we're still left with a roster of: Dragic/Duhon (assuming we take back a bad contract) Lee/Lamb Parsons/Morris Scola/White Howard/Camby We're still a very deep team. I'm sorry I'm not satisfied with being mediocre. We haven't shown any signs of real improvement in the last 3 seasons. Pardon me for wanting to take risks. The only alternative is to throw decent to good players out there and get trampled by the OKC's and Miami's of the NBA. No thanks.
cause, he wouldn't get us over the hump. we'd still be a 1st rd exit at best. there's no point in going after good role players if you don't have a superstar.
Problem is..... NOT Going to Happen! As my Original Post reads, It's Clear that Howard is not going to come to Houston. So why not tell me what you think is realistic that is better than what I posted.
T-Rob might make Big Cuz expendable down the road. If he acts a fool this season, SAC may jump on a loaded offer. I wonder if Lowry, Lamb/Jones, and a future 1st could do it... maybe entice them with D-Mo. I hope SAC has a terrible season and Morey, or possibly the team's new GM by that point, pries a disgruntled Cuz from them.
...Howard is also coming off major back surgery. If traded to a place he does not want to be, he can take his sweet time in rehab potentially missing most of the regular season. You think the above scenario is far fetched? Think again.
This is all assumption and speculation. I never said we would make the playoffs, or even win a series. To say it wouldn't get us over the hump is an opinion, and I respect it. At the same time however, what makes you think that the new guys are mediocre? Why not go at it for a year and see what happens? Hey it panned out for OKC. You telling me Nick Collison is and all star? how about Perkins? Ibaka? Fisher? I know we dont have Durant, I'll answer that before you come back with it. But maybe we do (Lamb).
Why does everyone keep saying T. Jones is a 4? He only played the 4 cause he had Anthony Davis. And he would get in the paint and grab Rebs. He's a 3 in the Leauge that can/will play the 4 in smaller lineups. MO.
I don't care if Dwight doesn't want to play in Houston. Neither did Pau Gasol. Neither do most players in the NBA, who would rather play in a glamour city like L.A or NYC. Dwight isn't coming back to Orlando, and if the Magic don't trade him before the season starts, he's going to lose a lot of suitors. A Motiejunas, Lowry, Patterson, Jones, and 2 first round pick offer is hard to turn down. Besides, realistic ≠ signing solid role players to continue down the road of mediocrity. Think outside the box. Realistic can mean amnestying Scola, shedding our roster and acquiring draft picks to rebuild, or even shooting for the stars and acquiring Dwight Howard. It's entirely realistic, and something that almost happened at the deadline and last night.
So your answer is basically keep doing what we have been doing for the past 3 years? The whole point in going for D12 is that it's a boom or bust type of situation. 2 situations: Situation A) He likes playing here and eventually attracts other superstars here. Situation B) He doesn't like playing here, leaves, and we get a whole bunch of cap room (ideally) and a season to tank. Idk..unless you're content with being 8th/9th in the west, I guess your situation is fine. Btw, don't think we want to add another pf in k humps seeing our logjam in our pfs.
