Given all the hype since two days ago, this outcome is a let down for sure. But when you think about it, there were some weird picks that screwed our plans: Bobcats picking MKG at 2 and Cleveland pick Waiters at 4 which took away our trade with Kings for 5 and Raptors somehow reaching for Ross at 8 instead of trading down with us to 12 which would have allowed us to take Drummond just before Detroit. As disappointed as I'm with the outcome, honestly can not blame Morey for this. None of the top 10 picks were traded, none. One thing I feel they could have done better was to keep their true intention more under the wrap instead of letting everyone know. Perhaps even throw out some mis-information in the future. Let us blind side other teams instead of them screwing us for a change.
I am pretty sure the info isn't coming from the Rockets camp. My guess is it comes from the other end to drive the price up or get other teams thinking we can compete with that offer and make a bid. Rarely does the leak come form the buyer. The seller wants to drive the price up or increase his options.
It's not about being pessimistic... and I honestly do NOT believe that DD is being pessimistic, but just thinking realistically and put those realistic thoughts into words. I mean realistically, he probably has the facts to back them up... And in my honest opinion, (again, NOT being pessimistic here) the reality of it all (realistically) is that we've been stuck in parking for the last three years.
DM seems pretty comfortable with the position the team is in and I think he should be. He is talking about still being able to offer the max to someone. I assume this is because he can wait to sign the draft picks after Free Agency (can someone verify if that is accurate?). Perhaps a deal with Orlando is already in place and DM will only pull the trigger if he can talk DWill into signing (with the added ammunition of an assurance that Dwight is coming if he he does). Just a theory, but I still feel like they have just as many options now as they did before the draft.
interesting about the answer to the Dallas trade. I thin k Zeller would have been a great gamble at 18.
We should have pounced on Zeller at #16 and then take White or Jones, whichever one was left at #18. Of course, I would have preferred Moultrie or even Fab Melo.
I REALLY wanna get behind these picks and White def is intriguing but ever since DM claimed PATRICK PATTERSON as the 6th best player on their board in 2010, I have a hard time trusting his talent evaluation.....
FYI: Dallas would likely have taken White at #17, if we didn't take him at #16, so it was either Zeller or White for us. http://twitter.com/ESPN_Caplan/statuses/218559378125635585
My only real criticism is that they didn’t spend a pick on a C. I can understand that maybe if you wanted Drummond and he was gone at 12 and Lamb is way better than any C left on the board. And I can understand that you took a gamble that you could pick up Zeller at 18 because you really wanted Royce and you didn’t think Royce would still be there at 18. But what doesn’t make any sense to me is you already have 2 rookies (+ DMo) coming to camp that has a pretty full roster of young players…can’t we just put in a WTH pick and pick up the best C left on the board at 18 even if it’s a reach? I’d rather, reach, take a gamble and see if he can somehow help the team then pick up a 7th PF that will probably never break the rotation even during garbage time. IMO the 18th pick was a total waste (which wasted the Bud trade) unless Morey knows of some teams that he can start unloading some PFs on.

Keep pushing the ball down the road "WAIT WAIT WAIT . . MOREY WILL SHOW YOU AT DRAFT TIMe. . HE GONNA MAKE IT HAPPEN!!" Post Draft "DUDE!! THE FREE AGENCY IS WHERE HE GONNA SHINE . . IT AIN'T OVER" PreSeason "DUDE, IT AIN'T TOO LATE!! WE GOT RIDICULOUS PROSPECTS AND UPSIDE. BESIDES . . WAIT UNTIL THE TRADE DEADLINE" After Trade deadline "DUDE! HE ALMOST HAD IT ALL . . . BUT WAIT TIL THE DRAFT" Repeat Rocket River
For what it's worth the 2010 draft hasn't had too many standouts. Patterson had an underwhelming soph season due to the ankle, but he is still in the top 10 of players drafted for 2010 when healthy. If his ankle injury isn't chronic then he should have a long NBA career due to his skill set. Yeah Morey's pre draft ranking are off by a few spots, but it's not like there is anyone overwhelming at the #6 rank in that draft now. ....But as they say excuses are like a-holes....everyone has one.
Are we pretending Patterson didn't look amazing in the second half of the 2011 season before he was injured or that Patterson was playing healthy/recovered from surgery last season? Also, are we pretending Morey isn't the guy who you guys all thought was crazy when he drafted Brooks, Landry, Budinger and Parsons? Marcus Morris is looking like he may be the first real Morey miss on draft day. That's a freakishly solid drafting record. I just don't understand you guys. Literally the only thing we have going for us as Rockets fans right now is that come draft day, we've got Daryl Morey.
One could argue Dorsey and Taylor were also misses. But Morris hasn't even gotten nearly enough time that I think we can write him off. Although based on Morey's picks, he might have, which seems premature and considering he got players that are in the exact same mold doesn't instill much confidence.
