True. And I don't think we would hold onto another PF (Leuer) unless we were getting rid of one.

My guess is with a little more weight training, Leuer is more of a 5 than a 4. Point still stands with Brockman though.

I think you read wrong . Fullcourt was the one saying Howard was a "sure thing" .. I wasn't making guarantees ,only being realistic.

    Dreaming is all good ..........

but the more likely scenario is that we end up with a player that doesn't want to play for us,no chemistry ever develops and he leaves after his year is up.

Rockets have the 14th pick next year and everyone is calling for murrys head.

There does seem to be a supreme sense of urgency to get something done. But remember Les loves Daryl.

I whole-heartedly agree with this statement.

    I don't agree with it.

I'm not totally unhappy if we actually now draft in those improved positions. There are some good players there, and we've only lost Bud and Bear (and Eli-aaaahhhhh-OOOOOO.)

I'm not sure making some solid draft picks is worse than a one-year rental of Howard (in the big picture.) It all depends if the presence of Howard can help them pull in others big names.

JF confirmed in his chat yesterday, no less than three times Morey's job was not in jeopardy, nor should it be.

Neither was JVG's or Adelman's until it quickly became so.....

Morey has been promising a turnaround, he knows his grace period is up, he needs to get busy executing his plan, and it looks like that is exactly what he is doing.

    I agree.

IF Morey gets Howard, he has until February to make this team into someplace where Howard wants to stay and play. If he fails, sure he may still keep his job to implement Plan C, but we will have wasted all the picks we could have used to build on. I dare say if Howard is that pissed enough he may do a "my back hurts" year as a payback. JayZ would still pony up a max contract to bring him on board - refreshed. Sure he'd be leaving money on the table but I think Jay would be working with endorsements to get most if not all of his missing money back.

If Morey fails to convince Howard, then we will get back NJ scraps, if that. A take-it-or-leave-it offer as more to a favor for Howard but he can get paid in other ways in the big city lights.

In the end, we could actually trade all these picks (+Lowry+Martin+Scola) and he walks for nothing. If he plays, then we might be good enough to make the playoffs. And if he walks, he'd be leaving us with scraps and no pick as that heads ironically to NJ. Sure we'd have cap space but any good max RFA will get matched so we either overpay Tier B and C players to get them to play and shoot for another 14 spot or we just hit bottom for a few years...a few very rough years....

no way les fires morey for doing what HE told him to do. les knows this isn't the easy way to go, but i'm sure he recognizes morey is doing the best he can with what he's got. if morey had full control of the team it would look much different. he has acknowledged in interviews that he thinks being bad is the best way to rebuild, but les has told him that's not what he wants to do.

Les may not fire Morey but that doesn't mean he's not on the clock if he succeeds in his quest to get Howard.

Sure thing = Dwight is a proven star. That's all I meant. None of the rookies have proven they can play in the league. I'm not implying it's a sure thing that we acquire Dwight.

...but with questionable health and a desire to play somewhere besides Houston.

Yes, we all know. My point is that we're gambling either way. If I'm gonna gamble, I'd like to take my chances with the best Center in the NBA.

i agree. in the scenario that we get dwight it's either he stays and everything is awesome, he ends up being injured and we don't resign him and end up tanking, or he just decides to not resign here and we end up tanking. i think we don't have a chance of being good after giving up what's needed to get howard, so whether les likes it or not we're going to be bad for a while after that. what we need is a direction and trading for howard is the best way to get that started.

I expect Leuer and Livingstone to be trade fodder. I believe since the Rockets are under the cap, the Rockets can trade them immediately instead of waiting two months before being able to combine them in a trade package. Livingstone appears to have an unguaranteed deal so he could help the Rockets trade for an expensive player without saddling the other team with too many guaranteed contracts. Leuer could be cut as well without incurring salary, but he is probably too valuable for that at his cost.

i don't remember hearing morey promise anything. all he says is that he is exploring every option and is constantly open to improving the team.
