http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Andrew-Nicholson-5518/ Late first rounder or early second rounder. Potent post offense and good perimeter shooting. Good size and hand for a mobile big man. Highly efficient and intelligent. Improved every year in college. OK rebounder and needs improvement on defense and turnover, but has the phisical tools ready. Need more muscle for NBA competition. Honestly, he may be a big steal for this draft. Sufficient length, mentally intelligent and improvement every year are all indications of realizable high upside in my dictionary. High turnover and lack of effort on defense due to heavy usage are all correctable for young talent, especially when you consider his remarkable efficiency.
I definitely agree with you. Him and Will Barton will be the steals at around that area. I feel both of them are candidates for Morey to buy a 2nd rounder and pick up. They would add some quality depth.
No way will he last to the second. Don't be surprised if he moves into the teens. He's too skilled and too intelligent.
Thunderdunks!! If we had gotten that Dallas pick I definitely think we could have grabbed him. Good guy, high role-player potential, but it'll probably take some time for him to get used to the physicality of the league.
Doubt it. He's what I call a greaser. He just slips and slides off defenders. Great back-to-the-basket moves and footword, great hands, he's gonna score the ball. High iq baller. Lots of natural instincts to go with his iq. He has potential to be even better if he really works for it. If the Spurs get their mits on him at the bottom of the first round that will be sick. He's the upgrade to that big red head that slings the 3-ball for them, except he can flip his game and go into the post and dominate a smaller perimeter player they put on him to keep him from facing up and shooting.
The more I read about this guy, the more he smells like a Rocket: 1. Scored EXTREMELY well in college in terms of both efficiency and volume. This fits the statistical profile a good number of recent Rockets acquisitions like Landry, Scola, Patterson, Mike Harris, Marcus Morris, Goran Dragic and Jeremy Lin. Each of these guys shot around 60% (or more) from the 2 pt range during their pre-NBA seasons (while being actual scorers, not just catch-and-dunk guys). 2. He is Canandian and not very athletic. So he's practically an Euro. Rockets love them some Euros. 3. Has refined post game and can score inside and out. Kevin McHale will like this (maybe an Al Jefferson type?). 4. Was a physics major at St. Bonaventure. So you know he's smart. Morey likes smarties like Battier and Jeremey Lin. He'll read the detailed statistical report for sure.
Drew's actual IQ is quite a bit higher than his Basketball IQ, IMO. It's not that he doesn't understand the game, but he did pick it up late, and I wouldn't consider him an "instinctive" player (if such a thing exists). That said, I think he has a high floor and a decent ceiling. I do prefer him to Sullinger.
Yeah, he does make sense. He has very similar size to Patterson (same standing reach, about the same height, but an even longer wing span), who Morey thought could slide up to the 5 when he was drafted (compared him dimensionally to Horford). He even showed a bit as a shotblocker (2 per game as a senior, 2.7 back when he was a freshman and probably concentrating on D). If we moved down in the first round/early 2nd round, I wouldn't mind taking a flier on him.
Can anyone explain why, in the Forum Hot Topics box, I'll see "Andrew Nicholson" and immediately below it "[NBA Draft] Andrew Nicholson"?
He reminds me a little of Bubba Gump in his interview. Hard not to like him-- his personality is a bit reserved, but that 7'4" wingspan might make him very popular around here.
I've only seen highlights, but I'm not sure I like him from what I've seen. Doesn't look the part to me. Not sure if his game translates. I question if his offensive output will outweigh his defensive output. He may actually be too smart and thus lack that certain edge/rah-rah attitude. I'm not sure he'll be determined enough. I think you can do better.
He was really bad in his Draft Express interview. He sounded like he just did not want to be there with his very short and evasive answers.
I don't know if it was that he didn't want to be there, he just seems really socially awkward...Anyway, DO NOT WANT. Wtf are we supposed to do with all these PF's?! I'm terrified of getting a guy like this, and on the CBS draft special the other day they said they heard he had a great workout in Houston too.
Just shows how deep this draft really is. Good news for those top teams when they can pick very good players late. Trading down opens up more opportunities.
