Tom: The bottom line: the entire ACA is upheld, with the exception that the federal government's power to terminate states' Medicaid funds is narrowly read.

    Wow.

Tom: Chief Justice Roberts' vote saved the ACA.

People at work are having heart attacks.

But reading SCOTUS Blog. They basically upheld the entire thing with the exception of limiting the government's powers to terminate medicaid funds if they dont go along on the medicaid expansion.

I am guessing this is why they took a few more days before releasing this to finesse a ruling. I suspect that Roberts didn't agree with the mandate but didn't want to put the USSC in the position of overruling such a major piece of legislation and step into the purview of the other branches.

Just heard that the USSC has struck down the Medicaid Expansion.

It survived. It will need to grow, to "evolve", but healthcare reform survived.

Amy Howe: The money quote from the section on the mandate: Our precedent demonstrates that Congress had the power to impose the exaction in Section 5000A under the taxing power, and that Section 5000A need not be read to do more than impose a tax. This is sufficient to sustain it.

    Liberal Media Alert! ;)
CNN first reported that the Individual Mandate was struck down.
    Just now
"Correction: The Supreme Court backs all parts of President Obama’s signature health care law. "

So since the left thinks Roberts is a radical who is destroying the country and his court is a bane on humanity...how do they feel about this?

The court reinforces that individuals can simply refuse to pay the tax and not comply with the mandate.

I would like to think so. Unfortunately, this will make the right come out mobilize hard for Romney - in their minds they have something big to fight for now...

so it's no longer an individual mandate, but an Alternative Health Tax.
