This is a part of it. Remember that Gordon did miss almost the entire season, so the level of injury concern has to be somewhat greater than it had been when they made the trade.

Also, when the trade was made, the one piece that looked very valuable to the Hornets was the unprotected pick from Minnesota-- the worst team in the league in 2010-11. That pick ended up being 10th overall. New Orleans also got a 2nd year player who was a lotto pick in Aminu. Kinda looked valuable at the time, but probably lost value since he didn't really get much more productive in his 2nd season. The value players and draft picks change since the time you trade for them a year ago.

Funny enough, the most valuable thing that the Hornets received from the traded ended up being Eric Gordon's injury, which allowed them to get the #1 overall pick (with some luck, they still only had a 13.7% chance of winning).

Anyways, I personally think that Gordon is worth the 4 year max, but I don't know what the Rockets know about New Orleans' thinking.

As I said, all venues are probably being explored right now and who knows which one will come to pass. One thing that I am thinking about is whether the Rockets are not better off landing just Josh Smith (who makes $13 million) on draft night and keeping some of their picks and cap room for the July free agency period and make deals with these. Maybe use a pick or two in a S&T for Eric Gordon? Maybe find a way to land Omer Asik to play center in addition to Smith and Gordon?

Getting Anthony Davis changes everything. They probably don't want to risk investing so much money in a player that has a history of being injured when they can just draft a guy like Rivers who could turn into a similar player. Sticking with the young guys and likely getting another top 8 pick or better isn't such a bad plan.

If the Rockets trade for two stars, instead of signing one, they can qualify for the MLE too?

You just had to slip Omer Asik in there somehow !

In all seriousness i agree with most of what you said. In the end if howard doesn't work out a guy like josh smith and possibly eroc gordon or someone else would be a damn good consolation prize.

Those are some good ideas. Already have other players on the roster to make this team deep.

    Yeah, I like this....

    Dalembert & Scola + #14 to SAC for #5

    Lowry + #16 to TOR for #8

Martin + #5 + #8 + rights to Llull to ORL for Dwight Howard

    Resign Dragic/Lee/Camby
    Sign Gordon
    Draft #18 = Kendell Marshal

    Dragic / Marshal
    Gordon / Lee
    Parsons / Morris
    Patterson / DMo
    Howard / Camby

Pretty nice lineup there with plenty of overlap being able to go big or small with decent defense and offense.

Not at all. He's renewing and plus not a chance he leaves a team that went to Finals.
