I am so excited for the possibilities and worried at the same time. Dwight could ruin us or make us. We could do other things. I really dont trust Morey but he got the 3rd pick at least. That is something finally. It means flexibility to something else but that doesnt mean much either. It just means 3 draft picks right now.
Really insightful stuff. FYI, that feeling you are having, that excitement and fear at the same time, that's called taking a risk. You know, that thing people on here keep saying Morey won't do.
I don't really get the people here talking about how the treadmill of mediocrity is just SoooOoo Bad. You know what's worse than being on the mediocrity treadmill? Its having no picks and seeing DH walk away, leaving you empty handed after you traded the house for him. This whole "yeah let's get teh superstar" route is the way NJ went, and look at them now, if they weren't going to Brooklyn they'd be the sorriest franchise on the planet. if DWill goes to the Jazz will NJ shrug its shoulders and say "oh well, we got played at least we're off the treadmill". Or will they kick themselves in the ass for trading away like 4 lottery picks in order to get and keep D-will happy last season? The fact is, the only ones who think we're on the "mediocrity treadmill" are morons. The franchise has been reloading all these years the so-called "pundits" have been talking about how the Rox have been doing nothing but just spinning the wheels, and in just 2 years since Yao Ming retired, we now have the 14, 16 and 18th pick in a loaded draft and could end up with a top 5 pick. And that's without tanking, without stripping your team to bare bones and losing games on purpose to get a higher pick. I think Parsons, Dragic and D-Mo could be really deadly working together, and we should be focused on getting better quality around those 3 rather than going for another superstar pipedream, who could walk away and leave us with nothing OR stay and be Yao Ming 2.0, taking up cap space while being luggage due to injury.
AGREED Completely. That's really the point I was originally trying to make. I'd rather try to compete with a team of our draft picks/vets vs 1 year or dwight and then no future.
being mediocre and continually getting high draft picks isn't a guarnteed rebuilding route. see Wizards, Washington. along with other stuck in mediocrity teams. when you have a chance at a guy like DH, you have to go for it. even if we stockpile draft picks, and take some high first rounders this year, and then go to the lottery again next year, there's no guarantee we will get a high pick, much less a franchise guy. see bobcats, charlotte.
You're delusional if you think the Rockets aren't mediocre RIGHT NOW. 14th pick, 3 years in a row. Best team to not make the playoffs, 3 years in a row. They need a direction. If they get a star player, then they have a chance to compete. If he walks, and the Rockets get nothing in return, our pick is lottery protected, so yes, we would have a pick. As of right now, this is a very mediocre team.
Everyone that calls our team mediocre fails to remember how our seasons played out. Not going to recall them all, but this last season the team was sluggish out of the gate due to the lockout. Scrapped our way back into contention. Then hit by the injury bug playing against tough teams from the West. I love our team of harder nosed players. If we were in the East there wouldn't be talk of gambling our future for Dwight. Keep working your draft magic. In Morey I believe.
+1 for you. I think Morey has to have some sort of idea that Dwight will stay or he should not do it solely on gambling. He has to has some sort of assurance.
Amen. Taking the Dwight risk is either going to makes us elite or blows it up. Either way I like it. Finally we're going to have a direction. Kudos to Morey.
