Honest question: Are you feeling significantly more optimistic because Morey swung the Bud-for-18 trade? It didn't really change my low expectations. I like being surprised.
The #assets being turned into Pau freaking Gasol would have been Dragic, Scola, and Martin. None of which are in play for Howard. We could have conceivably gone through with that trade, and still be after Howard today to pair with Gasol.
If nothing else, it's almost a guarantee that we're either going to land Howard or end up with a top 10 pick ... because we are not keeping three rookies + D-Mo and Morris. That in itself is more exciting than anything that has happened to us since the Artest trade. Of course, there is the possibility that it all falls through, Morey gives a pick to NJ to fulfill the obligation, drafts another guy at 14 that will be buried on the bench and another guy to stash in Europe at 16.
and one of the draft picks, and we wouldn't have the flexibility to trade lowry (without knowing whether or not we could entice d-will) because dragic would be gone.
Maury 2012 = Smithiak 2011 "Dude let's sign J Joseph and Manning. It will make our defense good. " - Kubiak "We do that . . .we will be in Salary cap hell in 2012" - Smith "Dude, if we don't do it . . we won't be here in 2012." - Kubiak "Good Point." - Smith Rocket River
So do we draft for the trading partner, or trade prior to picks, or do we pick what's best for us and Orlando gets what we give them? Can't wait for Thursday!
This thread's participants consist of the elitist group of clutchfans. All 10 year vets who are above and beyond participating in the 20 page threads regarding all this trade talk. Only kidding, nice to see some of the old school timers come and join the party here in the GARM.
Yep. It might also be the week where we see just how much pressure Morey might be feeling to produce. If he gets desperate and pulls the trigger on a less-than-prudent move, we'll know why.
Just realized that I hit my 10-year mark this month. WOOT! Had I not lurked for a couple of years, I'd be among the grizzled vets at this point.
I'd say Stern then plays the role of de Villefort to Morey Cristo - guess what happened to de Villefort.
memory is hazy, but did they erect a statue in his honor since he literally saved the village even though most credit was given to the one that would have wiped the village off the map for about 10 years if not for his intervention? eh, i'm mixing movies/reality. give you credit though..."morey cristo" would be a creative nickname if it was accurate and he had patiently waited until now to unload his assets and not already tried to trade everybody multiple times in advance of now. that's simply not true. "now" is happenstance. and damn lucky that if this happens, it happens to be far and away the best option of any big move that he's attempted to make leading up to this.
This. You can't imagine how much it urks me to have to weed thru the slueth of idiotic posts from people with a join date of 2010+. I'm not too far from that but trust me if I could have afforded my own computer at age 12 I would have definitely been part of the board then.
btw: just to illustrate how complex the Morey and Monte Cristo plans are...this is a model of the Cristo network of people, which I'm sure looks very similar to Morey's draft board, asset acquisition and trade plans <img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7c/CountOfMonteCristoRelations.svg" width=600> zoomed version -- spoilered for size ... lols Spoiler
Luck is fate disguised. Those moves were never meant to be. Only the here and now matters. And I agree that Nene and Gasol were never the end-games. The players that were involved in those moves were never going to be part of the bigger deal for Howard.
