Wow. A nice move by Morey, and a good pickup for Adelman's T-Wolves. Bud was always a crapshoot in the second round (they all are), but after some inconsistency, he settled into being a very nice role player, and continued to improve on his weaknesses, becoming less of a liability on defense and a solid addition to the bench, who could step into a temporary starting gig, if needed.

    I'm going to miss him.

This only matters if players make less money by not being with the Rockets. Landry got paid. Brooks is about to get paid. CBud is going to get paid next year. All three players probably would not have gotten a huge deal from the Rockets.

If anything, you can say Morey did Budinger a favor by trading him to the Wolves. Because with the Wolves he can shine get his big multi-year, big contract rather than the sub-$1mil/yr deal he was getting here.

    Very good point.

I still like the trade, just adding a bit of realism, it is not great unless we can flip it.

Who drafted Chase and him knowing the potential Chase could be to take that gamble on buying that 2nd rd pick from the Pistons is relevant on knowing when to deal Chase for something better; if drafting Chase was deemed a good move to you, then Morey should have earned some modicum of trust that he is trying to make the team better with this trade.

It's true he has developed and you have to compare what you're giving away now to what you're getting. However, Parsons has beaten out Chase and he was starting to get spotty time. More importantly, he has only 1 year left before getting a new and much more expensive contract. Since he wasnt starting he wouldn't have gotten that from Houston anyway and would be gone in a year. We got very good value for him regardless, and when you think where we picked him up it adds up as a win for the rockets. Not saying we can't blow the next step, but this is clearly a win as a trade. Min did ok too but it cost them.

    Quite true, DD.
It's the player's current value that counts, not the price you paid for him.

More specifically, however, it is the value of the player's role on the team that truly matters — not just his value as a player. In that context, trading Bud for a piece of a larger deal makes sense. Again, this is probably not about trading a developed role player for a player who could potentially develop in the future.

Bud is a nice player, but you have to keep the bigger picture in mind here.

Looking at it from Minny's perspective as well - they do not need any more young draft picks, they are really young already.

They could use a nice veteran like Chase that can fill a role, and fill it well, especially when Adelman is trying to get their system down.....

Chase will thrive in Minny, especially playing with Rubio......

I like this trade for all parties....

well no, it only matters if that's in fact a real reason why big free agents won't sign here/people don't want to play here.

In this draft, that's like trading for a 14th to 15th pick....I like it.

If we only end up getting Josh Smith, i will be sooo disappointed. It will be a move that will just keep us avg and waste more years of building through the draft. Josh Smith will never be on a championship team as #1 or #2 option. As part of a big 3? I'll take it(but not happening).

Well, can you name me a single FA who went to a "worse" situation team-wise or city-wise than the Rockets for whatever reason?

I would not say, "rarely make a difference", but you do make a good point on people over valuing mid 1st rounders. 14-18 picks on average turn into role players. Picks after 20 or so is when you are more than likely getting a deep bench or a guy who just doesn't stick. I would say Morey has done a great job at hitting guys that are at least role players 14 or later. Morris being the exception, but he still has time to turn it around.

Morey's flaw so far has been inability to get a star player. I'm hoping this year will be the change.

I didn't misinterpret it, I know Chase was slamming Morey in the comment and to that I was saying Morey doesn't have time to care about what he is perceived as. He's trying to get things done and if he gets a bad rep in the process, oh well.

Some of you guys are overblowing the Morey is not loyal/ sucks at schmoozing therefore he's a bad GM and we can't get a superstar. We can't get a superstar because we don't have much to attract superstars/teams wanting to deal their superstars to us.
