Is it possible that we use these 3 picks plus a player to get the 5th and the 8th and then send those to Orlando.. then turn around and send Lowry, Martin, next years 1st and a filler to New Jersey for DWill?
Absolutely it would. We're stacked with rotation players at every position right now. No mid first rounder is cracking this rotation.
Wait, I thought trades couldn't happen until draft night (?) did I miss something? Sorry for asking a stupid question.
Yes it would. Players drafted 14 or lower rarely make a difference and almost NEVER in their first year. Outside of the top 4 or 5 the success rate plummets. Having 3 picks in the 14-18 range is nothing special at all. DD
i am thinking no for right now, he played so little last season that most of the scouting video on him is still college footage and workouts and maybe like a total of 100 minutes or so of game tape. The rockets have the most scouting on him I think they'll keep him, his brother did pretty well last season in phoenix when he got PT. Its rare for this team to give up that quickly on a prospect, I suspect he will get more PT this year and show value if pieces are moved for picks/players. of course he by no means will stop any trade if it means we'd be getting an all-star/superstar back in return
Good news for Budinger. He is a solid player with good offensive skills but lacks defensively. As long as our coaching staff still preferred to play 'small' with two PGs and Parsons or use Lee at 2 and move Martin to the 3 so that he gets minutes, Bud would languish on the bench. Not to mention, this allows Morris to crack the rotation as well. The fact that we got another pick is great news, no doubt we are trading at least two of them for a higher one or packaging one or two on another deal. Now I just hope we can get something for Lowry.
Man. If the Sac and Toronto trades are then made, even if Morey doesn't get Howard for 1 year (which would be stupid) then the Rockets have 5,8,14,and18!!!
Trades can happen as soon as your team's season is over. You just don't see much trades until draft night because teams generally trade for picks having a specific person in mind. You don't want to trade for a pick and then have the player you wanted getting picked one pick before you.
Such a Morey move. Incremental upgrades! Now we'll groom the 18th pick into a solid starter and trade him for the 8th pick in 2015.
Also good luck to chase but for Morey to get the #18 in a better than average draft class for him is just awesome
The 18th pick could be used to fulfill the Brooklyn obligation. Stop trying to poo poo a solid move just because your boyfriend was traded.
Regardless of the results this was a productive, intelligent move. To say that if it doesn't end up in a better deal then it was a bad move is ridiculous.
