I know you guys think Kevin Martin should be getting ready to book his ticket out of here. But if we acquire Dwight Howard somehow dont you guys think it would be smart to keep someone like Martin. Someone who can knock down 3's and provide us with scoring from the perimeter. I believe he really didnt want to be here seeing as how we weren't really serious contenders. But now maybe he starts to see the light and whips himself into better shape. What do you guys think?
If the Rockets aquired Dwight Howard, you wouldn't believe how quickly Martin's sad little face would perk up. Who doesn't like shooting wide open 3's? Martin would be the perfect 2 guard to play alongside Howard... If healthy.
If the Rockets want to clear space for DWill, then KMart's salary becomes prohibitive. Otherwise, unless another team want him as a player, it is possible to fit Dwight Howard on this team while retaining KMart. I personally love KMart pairing up with a dominant big, but Morey may want to split his salary into several players in order to make up depth lost in all these trades.
I think the plan is to keep him . With a dominant player in the post ( if we get DH ) you need a player like KM to knock those wide open 3s
Depends on what happens with Dalembert & Scola. Obviously you have to consider the fact that Gasol might still be an option for the Rockets to trade for at this point. If you can't get a secondary scorer to go with Dwight I think having Martin on this team might make more sense then holding on to Scola(assuming the trading team would be willing to take Scola instead of Martin). Although I still think the Rockets are working the phones to get someone else like Gasol, if Martin is the last man standing on this roster I would feel really good about keeping him to play alongside a dominant big man like Dwight.
Is it possible that we use these 3 picks plus a player to get the 5th and the 8th and then send those to Orlando.. then turn around and send Lowry, Martin, next years 1st and a filler to New Jersey for DWill?
I'd rather deal Martin then Scola. Rockets history has the last time we were successful, we had two or three options that could score in the paint, with Yao, Scola and Landry. We've seen the Magic try to build around Howard as the only offensive consistent option in the post and be a jumping shooting team and we've seen what happened with the Rockets when we lost Landry and had no one but Scola. From the video I've seen Montejunas might not be ready and you might not get a quality offensive big with whatever draft picks we have after a trade. Meanwhile, we should be able to secure Lee who was on the Magic team with Howard that went to the finals and a decent 2 is easier to find as a backup then a 4 of Scola's caliber.
The secondary move the Rockets make will determine who or Scola/Martin gets dealt. More than likely its going to be Gasol or Josh Smith. Dont be shocked if Martin is still on the roster after the dust settles. The Rockets know the key to a Dwight Howard deal is the secondary Robin to Batman move. To me, with either combo of the two makes keeping a top scoring wing player like Martin on the roster a must. If they have to give up Martin in the trades then they will be forced to go out and try to recruit a Ray Allen or someone else that can offer perimeter scoring. Why go look when you already have one locked in next year. That being said, if they have to move Martin to get the deal done... so be it.
There isnt chemistry with Martin here...might as well go at Allen and KG for the vet min... Imagine a team with Howard and KG, Allen, Lee and Goran...that would be tremendous...upgrade
It is a very short list of players in this league that produce anywhere close to Martin for the Money he makes. Put a shot blocker behind him and his defense will look a lot better.
