They better save one of those picks to trade to someone to eat Patterson's or Morris' salary. Though I guess we still have the Dallas pick we can throw in as a sweetner. Personally I want Martin out of here yesterday. I'd love to have more but I'll take a mid-round pick and the cap space. All your pick are belong to us
Martin for 18th? LOL An elite offensive player for an 18th pick? KMart is worth much more than that. He would be the ideal 2nd or 3rd option to DH
True, but you assume that (a) other moves aren't made and (b) Lee's cap hold is still in place. If the Rockets can move quickly enough, they might be able to get Lee to agree to a long-term deal starting at below his cap hold figure. Failing that, if D-Will were ready to sign here for the max, the Rockets could always just trade Patterson for future picks, like how the Heat dumped a productive Michael Beasley in order to add Bosh and Lebron.
Martin is not an elite offensive player. He is a good scorer and exxcellent FT shooter. But the rest of his game is a liability and he had a bad 2012. The 18th is a gift.
Guys, the entire point of trading Martin would be to maximize cap room in order to make a strong run at Deron Williams. They're not going to want to take back salary. That's why I think it's got to be Webster and Miller coming back with the #18 pick (and hopefully another pick). Both those guys have partially guaranteed contracts for next year that, if waived after the draft, will only count $600k and $848k, respectively, against the Rockets' cap. If this were a trade to bring back salary from Minnesota, then I doubt Morey would pull the trigger on dealing Martin, since he's not going to get "fair value" for him. If the Rockets can add Williams without removing Lee's cap hold from the books, then yes, they can go over the cap to re-sign Lee. Camby, on the other hand, would need to be renounced in order to make room for Williams, as Camby's cap hold is nearly the max salary amount. However, if Camby agreed to sign for the $2.5M Room Exception, they could possibly re-sign him using that. Even then, it depends on how much Lee signs for, since the Room Exception will actually become unavailable if the Rockets exceed the salary cap re-signing Lee. They won't need a sweetener to deal Patterson or Morris. Those guys have enough value to where teams would be willing to give up at least a (real) second rounder for them. Just like how the Heat got two second rounders for Michael Beasley, who at the time made three times what Morris makes.
This move will only happen if we trade both of the 14th and 16th picks to get Howard. Though we're not getting much, we need that pick so we can move the other 1st round picks. It will also give us cap space to go after Williams.
A couple thoughts: Toronto has enough cap space to practically swallow Martin's contract outright. If we are trading up for #5 and #8, I suspect we give up Lowry and #14 for #5 and possibly Martin and #16 for #8. Martin makes a lot of sense in Toronto. They are looking for a SG to move DeRozen to the 3. He's a perfect fit there. Toronto signs Nash, drafts a kid like Ross or Fournier at #16. Also, they've got Calderon on an expiring deal. They could flip us Calderon and #8 for Martin and #16. I don't see getting #5 for Lowry alone. I don't see getting #8 for Lowry alone. On another note, I have to wonder if some of Dwight's opposition to coming to the Rockets is stemming from talking to his buddy, Courtney Lee??? There were rumors all season of Lee wanting out of here, wanting to go somewhere where he could start, along with more than one player being upset with McHale. I don't know if that was Lee but I have a funny feeling that Lee is giving Dwight feedback about McHale and the team here....and that could possibly be making Dwight feel even more negative about coming here. One thing I'm worried about is if Lee decides to sign his one-year tender offer, which is likely more than what he is going to be offered on the open market, that little bit of salary could be enough to prevent us from signing DWill without waiving bye-bye to Goran. (And I'm fairly certain the last thing the Rox want to do is give up Goran. I think they are viewing Goran as the third star to combined with DWill and Dwight and they want to retain him in case DWight bolts at the end of next season.) And on another note, Morey is basically going to have to clear the deck to bring in Dwight and Deron if he is going to keep his cap holds on Lee and Goran. Everybody else, save a couple small contracts like Parsons and Motie, is going to have to go to have the cap space to sign Deron to the max. Because to acquire Dwight and beat out everybody else's trade packages, the Rox are going to have to take back Hedo or one of Big Baby/JRich and one of Duhon/QRich. One of the big keys for Orlando dealing with Houston is the fact that we can help them clean up their salary cap mess by taking back some of those long-term boat anchor deals (Hedo, Davis, JRich, QRick, Duhon).
coach, it seems that what we predicted about having 4-5 first rounders will becoming true. Lol, Morey will be dumpest GM of the year if he offers Orlando for DH12 and bad contract (Turgo).
how about this deal 5th pick + 8th pick + 18th pick + dallas pick + patterson + budinger for dwight howard
jopatmc, (1) I think you could get the #8 pick for Lowry, straightup. (2) Lee's QO will be less than $4.4M. I'm pretty sure there are several teams that would be willing to sign Lee to a full MLE deal. I also think any deal he agrees to with Houston will start at above $4.4M (or maybe a little less if it's a five-year deal). (3) I think the entire point of amassing so many DRAFT PICKS to trade to Orlando is for the express purpose of NOT having to take back bad contracts. I'm guessing that Morey's strategy is to so overwhelm Orlando with how many quality first round picks it's willing to give up--sorry, coachbadlee--that Orlando will not be able to refuse this "Godfather Offer" and will just take it without sending back additional salary. Maybe it's just me, but if Morey amassed 3-4 first rounders but Orlando demands that he take back Turkoglu or Davis, Morey may just walk away. For as huge a risk as the Howard trade already is, that just might push it over the edge for Morey, as the Rockets could then be left with a 2013-14 team without Dwight but still saddled with other Orlando salaries.
Man i don't no what your doing but please stop cause anybody that would do what your suggesting needs to have there head checked.
