The people that would rather have Drummond have little faith that Dwight would remain a Rocket for long.

It's more my faith in this organization really...all those teams that keep losing its stars have always been losers that don't know how to build teams.

Exactly. Getting a chance to see if Drummond becomes anything is better than 1 exciting year of Dwight followed by tears as he walks away.

I'm talking about getting it in, not getting teased.

About as preposterous as you using the word preposterous (on a message board even).

    1. Read the OP.
    2. Get a feel for the conversation.
    3. Post a marginally informed thought.

Refer back to this later, for any help.

    no I really don't!!

But my point is that Dwight For one year is better than Drummond for 3, cause he will be out of the league by 2016!!

For those who think Andre is just athletic..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXB6vc5Z_A4

See how much potential he has? He was in a rough situation last year with his coach being gone half the year, bad team chemistry with him coming late and a back court who preferred shooting then dumping it in the post. I wouldn't worry about rebounding to much, he has all the tools to be a massive rebounder with his strength and athleticism. He's only 18.

You must take the risk. It is time to either compete for a championship or go into complete tank mode. I think the chances of howard extending with us are as good as drummong being an effective player. So in essence it is the same risk..yet howard is a much better player even if drummond pans out.

    Anything else?

Anybody that shoots below 40 percent from the free throw line is not a basketball player! Seriously I don't understand how you can make it to the highest level of Basketball in the world and not be able to hit a Free Throw with any consistency it is just annoying haha sorry I just wish I could be signed in the NBA I could at least hit a freaking Foul Shot!!

People rather have Drummond for 4 + years than have Howard for just 1 year.

Its not an arguement about who the better player is..... but howard will literally cost 2x as much as drummond in assets and more than that in salary. So the risk is huge with howard too. About even risk of howard leaving/getting hurt/ us not being a true contender as there is of drummond not panning out. So while i see your point ... i actually agree more with the keep drummond crowd

Just getting Dwight isn't going to make this team a contender in one year, that's the problem. Unless the Rockets can sign Dwill as well...then I think that changes everything.

Maybe this team should not try to take shortcuts and build the team the standard way. Making the right picks in the draft and building around those players.

Also Drummond does not have a ceiling, so if he pans out he'll pan out big. The only reason he isn't #1 or #2 is because of his low floor. Scouts think he's a boom or bust guy. Davis is likely going to come into the NBA and at the very least be a productive player...Drummond can be a bust true...

But sky is the limit for Drummond, otherwise he'd be going past the top 10.

Kevin McHale can’t predict draft future, but would like a veteran presence

Kevin McHale spoke of the great depth of talent in a draft pool of players deeper than the Rockets will need with the 14th and 16th picks. He hoped that the Rockets will not take many, if any of them.

While the Rockets make no secret of their preference to find a way to land a signature star or at least move up in the draft, McHale could not predict those moves will happen on Thursday.

ESPN.com reported that the Rockets’ talks about acquiring the sixth pick from Sacramento and the eighth pick from Toronto were to entice Orlando into a trade of Dwight Howard. That sort of deal has been the Rockets’ overriding mission since Yao Ming’s injuries ended his career. Howard has been the clear target since trade talks ended at March 15. But moving up in the draft has been considered a worthwhile goal even without a subsequent blockbuster trade, with Daryl Morey seeking that kind of move every season he has been the Rockets general manager.

After years in that role with the Timberwolves, McHale knew that he’d be happy with the picks and happier with the players they would get him.

“Having done this job. … for a long, long time, I don’t even know if there is a level of optimism,” said McHale, speaking at the organization’s day working at the Houston Food Bank. “Some draft days you say, ‘Wow, everything worked out.’ Other days nothing worked out. Everybody you liked is gone and no one makes a trade. So I have no idea. I’m happy because we like 18, 20 guys deep in this draft so you know you’re going to get a couple guys you like at our picks which is all you can ask for. The rest of the stuff, whether we make a trade or all the other stuff, that’s really hard to determine.”

McHale would rather not add two more rookies to a roster with three picks – Marcus Morris, Donatas Motiejunas and Chandler Parsons – from last season, especially with Motiejunas heading into his rookie season and Morris nearly as inexperienced.

“I would as soon have one or two veterans,” McHale said. “Those guys are going to be like rookies again for us. To add two more – we’ve had that discussion quite a bit. You can only get so young in our league and be successful. It’s that blend of trying to make sure we don’t have all guys who are 19 to 20 years old.”

There is likely as much uncertainty about whether Kyle Lowry would return, but McHale said he has no issues with Lowry. He said that he spoke briefly with Lowry said after his veteran point guard said last month that he did not believe he and McHale could successfully work together another season.

“I always said as a coach, your job isn’t to get along with everybody,” McHale said. “Your job is to coach them hard. I don’t have a problem with Kyle. He may have a problem with me, but he better worry when I have a problem with him. If he has a problem with me, doesn’t like me, that doesn’t bother me very much. If I have a problem with him, he sits on the bench. That probably bothers him more.

“I’m, not even concerned about that”

Rockets CEO Tad Brown is optimistic about that situation.

“Knowing both these guys, I’m sure cooler heads will prevail as soon as everybody gets together and talks it through,” Brown said.

Still, when McHale described what he wants most, he again cited skills that come from players much bigger than either point guard. He has said the same thing since he became Rockets coach it sounded as if he were describing Dwight Howard.

“From my standpoint, getting bigger, playing above the rim, protecting the rim, rebounding and blocking shots (are) always a good thing,” McHale said. “I still think that being able to protect that rim with shot blocking and rebounding is a huge thing.”

True but 2012 Drummond will not equal 2012 Howard, I extremly extremly doubt Morey would pull off a trade for so much without even a slight guarantee. but think 4 years from now which will take for Drummond to mature into early prime.

Rockets team age in 4 years.(keeping picks)
    Dragic(30yrs)
    Lee/8th pick (30/24ish)
    Parsons/Morris (27/26)
    DMO/Pat(26/27)
    Drummond(22)

this team could be solid in 4 years but getting Howard makes you legit the night you get him.
