Chad Ford tweeted he'll be on Sportscenter soon to talk draft, I'll see if he mentions anything new on Houston.

Come on, now! You don't even mean that!

Let's assume for a moment that Les Alexander doesn't give a crap about the fans or about winning and only wants to make money (which I do NOT think is true). Sure, he might make more money this year with a Howard rental; but he would most assuredly lose much more than the marginal profit made next year over the succeeding years if the Rockets don't re-sign Howard.

A trade for Howard would be a bigger risk for Les Alexander than ANYONE. He's got a LOT to lose ($$$) if Howard bolts after one season.

You are forgetting cap holds and Cater has a 2 Mil buyout on the cap.

    so in 2013 you have:
    Dirk- $22.72 Mil
    DWil- $17.8 Mil
    Cater- $2 Mil buyout
that is $42.52 Mil without cap holds if they amnesty Haywood and trade Marion.
That would leave them with 9 cap holds at $4.41 Mil. So they would have $46.93 Mil allocated and could only offer Dwight around $12 Mil if the cap does not increase. I don't think Dwight would take that and even if the cap rises to 61 Mil, it is still only around $15 Mil they can offer him and then have to fill out the roster with minimum salary players.

Who are you listening to, then? I apologize if I'm wrong, but your views on basically any pro league have more of a Dallas fanboy bias than most of the friends I have up there that actually support those teams!

There is no possibility of Griffin becoming a non-restricted free agent. Either he'll sign an extension, which everyone (including the Clippers) expects, or he'll go into restricted free agency next summer, and they can match any offer. Show me an example of a young star that Donald Sterling has let walk for nothing while controlling his rights.

It's bad in terms of the salary cap, discount or not. To fit in Dwight at $15+ mil ($58mn cap), you have to be at $43 mil or under next summer. Dirk's salary will eat over half of that by himself! Add in $14 mil for Deron and $9.3 mil for Marion, and you're already above $45 million. That's in the absolute ideal scenario - using amnesty on Haywood and somehow signing an entire roster full of one-year contracts this year (outside of Dirk, Deron, Marion and Haywood). And based on the sheer lack of players, there are also no trade assets to entice Orlando in a S&T.

There's a greater chance of both Dwight and Deron playing in Houston than there is of Howard in Dallas. Not happening.

Deron said he'd play for Brooklyn or Dallas, Dwight said he would play for Brooklyn, neither are saying they would consider playing here. I just wish we would stop chasing these huge trades and start drafting and building a team the way OKC did.

This is the minutes distribution for the Seattle Supersonics in 2007-2008:

    http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/SEA/2008.html

Having vets on the roster didn't prevent Kevin Durant and Jeff Green from leading the team in minutes and didn't prevent the Sonics from ending up 20-62. Just because you pay a guy, doesn't mean you have to play him.

By the way, it will be no joke trying to trade Marion's contract for no salary in return: still a good players, but with $18 million owed over 2 years and likely to decline at his age. Teams will not take on that money without a significant "sweetner" in the deal.

One sweetner that Mavs doesn't have? Future draft picks-- this is because the Rockets own their top 20 protected pick. They will have little flexibility in trading future picks.

Deron would play in Dallas because of Mark Cuban and Dirk. Also, it's his hometown. Deron would stay in Brooklyn if Dwight Howard got traded there. Also, Jay-Z is cool.

If the Rockets got Dwight Howard, Houston should become more enticing to Deron and crack the list. I'm not sure if I'm remembering correctly, but when Houston almost traded for Deron a couple of years ago, I don't think he objected to playing here.

Even if we don't get Deron but do get Dwight, it wouldn't be the worst thing since Dragic is a not-to-shabby alternative. I have confidence that Morey could trade for another star that appease Dwight. But if not, we let him walk or trade him in the offseason. Either way, we rebuild.

Let's just enjoy the chase. I'd much rather have this than remaining stagnant considering the starless, mediocre state of this franchise.

this argument is annoying...we've seen it 30 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it doesnt mean houston isnt confident that they can change his mind and that he wont really turn down all that money to sign with whoever he wants.

THAT IS NOT A VALID ARGUMENT...other wise Morey wouldn't be trying to trade for him...something that can no longer be disputed as every major media outlet has now reported it!

You do know that a one year rental of Howard could make up for potential losses accrued the past 2-3 seasons. If there were some.

um ...we've been chasing the big trade for 3 seasons now, and right now, we are probably a 500-to below 500 team. Have you enjoyed that? I haven't.

Would our next target be Josh Smith? I'd be ecstatic about that frontcourt.
