I was thinking about that. You would have to sign Dragic facing the circumstances with Howard's uncertain future with us.

Though if we do get Howard and the Rockets tried to sign Deron first before Dragic, it could be possible that Dragic will be upset and signs somewhere else. At that point if Deron doesn't come here, we would have to make a run at Nash.

The article about him only signing with Brooklyn or Dallas basically tells me one thing. The only place he'll take less money at is Dallas. When teams start the change and oppurtunities start to present itself, it will be very hard for DWill to turn down an offer to play with a solid team at max contract.

    NO.....just, NO!

    For one season?

    Then he leaves.....then what?

He'll be the best center in the game playing for someone else.

Meanwhile.....Rockets have NOTHING to show for him once he bounces.

    Pass.

To be clear, if the Rockets do somehow acquire Howard, I'm not going to complain. I'll sit back and enjoy the ride. But if it doesn't end well, for whatever reasons, I'll be shaking my head at the inevitable.

And I say for whatever reason because it's not like Howard is a guaranteed championship ticket. I think the Thunder would STILL be a better team. Perkins can actually be somewhat successful playing d against Howard, as opposed to what he had to do against the Heat. The Spurs could STILL be a better team, even at their age. The Lakers STILL remain dangerous. The Mavs, if they acquired Williams separately, would STILL be dangerous. The TWolves are moving up, imo - if they can all stay healthy. The Blazers might luck into a superstar at #6 and quickly fill out their roster. The Grizzlies STILL have upside potential. Not to mention having to play an eastern team, then, likely the Heat.

Lots of ifs there, and clearly Howard makes you a freaking much much much better team.... just pointing some things out.

We are desperate. We have been for a while right now.

None of these players are Westbrook. None of these players are Durant. This is a deep draft in terms of how many potential role players there are out there. Not star players.

The chance we end up like OKC is very low. We would have a better chance to end up like them once we properly rebuild. We can not rebuild with Scola, Lowry, and Martin. They are good enough (as you can see for the past seasons) to lead us to borderline playoff team. We can not rebuild like OKC if we don't get picks in the top 5 like they did.

please understand how the nba works, young one :)

I understand and appreciate your passion for the Rockets, but I feel you are a little misguided about the whole team-building concept .. It took me years to really realise how it all works, so I don't blame you for firmly believing and insisting on what you believe should be the course of action.

Let me ask you this, how did OKC get Kevin Durant?

If he doesn't sign an extension by the deadline, than the Rockets should (and I would hope they feel the same way) trade Dwight for whatever they can get. We would still get picks and cap space at the deadline for Dwight.

Toronto likely wants Lowry for the 8th pick. The deal would be better if the Rockets could get a future first round pick from them to free up both picks this year. I'm sure they are interested in Martin's contract year as well.

The Kings have a log jam at the guard position with a lot of salary tied up there. They owe:

    1. Salmons - 2 years, $15.6 million with a team option on his third year.
    2. Thornton - 3 years, $24.4 million. They want to keep him.
    3. Garcia - $6.1 million with a team option next year.
    4. Fredette - on his rookie contract
    5. Evans - $5.2 million.

The Kings could use Dalembert. My guess is they want to get rid of Salmons.

    Toronto trade:
    8th pick for Lowry

    Kings trade:
5th pick and Salmons for Dalembert and 16th
    http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=8775bdb

    Howard three way trade:
Howard for 5th, 8th and 18th pick from Minnesota.

Minnesota sends Orlando the 18th pick for Martin.

The Rockets would not have the cap room to sign Williams if this is these are the trades unless they amnestied Scola.

    Howard / Camby
    Scola / Patterson / Montiejunas
    Parsons / Budinger / Morris
    Lee / Salmons
    Dragic / Marshall (14th pick)

I'm not sure Morey does the trade for a rental. Out of all the teams I mentioned, the Kings are the likely candidate to trade for Scola.

anyways, this isn't the first time we are getting a howard from the magic. last time we got a howard from the magic, it was the best period of rockets basketball since arguably the championship times

Right... and IF we don't make a bold move we WILL end up just missing the playoffs and "With the 14th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft... the Houston Rockets select _____ ______ " will be inevitable.

Trade for Dwight. Sign FA's from the laundry list of options this summer. Combine them with our remaining players and compete.

    Huh?

The Kings are going to trade their high lottery pick for the guy they let walk last offseason in favor of Chuck Hayes? Come on now. That's not even close to realistic.

Marc Stein was on 103.3 this morning discussing his article from Friday about Williams narrowing it down to Brooklyn & Dallas. Supposedly, Williams feels confidently that Mark Cuban will do whatever it takes to put together a championship team around himself and Dirk. He does not feel that way about Houston. The scuttlebutt up here is hot and heavy that Williams is coming to Dallas. Nothing I have seen, heard or been told gives me the slightest indication that Williams would even consider playing in Houston.

The only real PG that SAC has is Isaiah Thomas, whose potential is limited by his severe lack of height. And out of those shooting/scoring guards you listed above, Thornton is the only real consistent performer.

From what I've been told and have seen, Dallas should be able to sign Williams and clear enough cap space to go after Howard in 2013. He wouldn't get the same max deal he could get in Orlando but it would be close to satisfy him, although I think Cuban is really planning on going after Blake Griffin if LAC drops the ball.

    Good.

We trade for Dwight. Sign Dragic. Win championship.

Hopefully, Dwight's one year in Houston is long enough to pick up the injury curse. A curse he can take with him to Dallas after signing a max deal to join his BFF. Halfway into his first season with Dallas, the curse kicks in taking out his back sending the Mavs into salary cap hell for 4 to 5 years.:p
