Do you need to blow up the team to get a player like that though? Alot of big guys in the league can do that. Hell Gasol can do that.
The only player you can defer to in this league thats a post player when the game is on the line is Dirk Nowitzki.. and he's probably the rarest player to ever play in this league.
You don't realize what I'm saying, you need them now, you needed them then and you will need them 50 years from now. Nothing is new. Having a dominant big only makes it easier. The fact that there aren't any in the league has more to do with the fact that there just aren't many ever than it has to do with wings being more dominant. Heck, the Heat have Bosh, he is probably a top 10 big in the league. The Thunder's best post player was Ibaka at 6'9" and that is why they lost. If the Thunder had Tyson Chandler instead of Kendrick Perkins, the Championship banner would be hanging in OKC. If the Mavs had kept Chandler, the banner might be in Dallas again. If Bosh hadn't gotten healthy the Heat wouldn't have even made the finals. you need quality bigs in this league
I agree with you that we do need somebody like Chandler and Bosh which is exactly what I said in my original post. "Of course you'll need a guy who can block shots and get rebounds down low and somebody at the PF like DMo that can knock down shots consistently." But we definately dont need to make that our center of attention. But without Lebron and Dwade, Bosh would be sitting at home playing 2K with Derozan. BTW Tyson Chandler is not a superstar.
U know Lebron played inside right? More big guy? U know Dwight went to the championship in 09? He can win. Centers of equal talent to wings will always be more important.
Ok Lebron played inside in the Celtics series and almost lost. Dwight went to the Finals and got swept by a team that had that superstar wing player.
I'm not saying we dont need post players. Just tired of seeing people who want to gut the team for Howard when in actuality we dont need a player like Howard. Not only did we use to struggle on defense when players were attacking the rim but we didnt have our own players who could take over at the end of the game and be our superstar player.
Fact: Dwight did not get swept. Fact: Shaq was Batman and Kobe was his Robin. Fact: Dominant bigs win championships. Fact: Kobe has never won a championship without a dominant big man.
The NBA C's that can both be a force on both end of the floor have gone away which is very sad to see. It is a SG/G league but I rather have a true C any day.
Fact: Shaq was Batman and Kobe was Robin 10 ****ing years ago. Like I said we dont have the same type of league today as we did then. There are not the same amount of legit big men now as there were back then. That league then saw David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Chris Webber, Alonzo, Garnett, Malone.. now everyone on that list is retired or pushing it and you're left with Bynum, Howard, Blake, And Kevin Love..
I think the fact that it seems like elite wing players are winning championships instead of elite bigs is related to the lack of elite bigs, not their lack of importance. Who was the last elite big to not win a championship? Hakeem, Robinson, Shaq, and Duncan all won multiple championships. Bynum won, although some would question if he's elite. Howard is really the only elite big of the last 20 years to not win a championship (Yao doesn't count due to injury). That could be considered a knock on him, but he's still only halfway through his career. It's rare that an all-time center like Howard to win a ring in their prime, and that's would we would be looking at if we had Howard for the next 5 years.
Dwight is a dominant top 3 player, you trying to argue that he doesn't put us closer to a title is asanine.(ten-eleven.)
You said it in your own post that there aren't many dominant bigmen left. Think about it, neither OKC nor miami had a dominant big. Therefore, it didn't matter that much. Last year, neither Dallas nor Miami had an elite big but Dallas had the more dominant bigs, and they won. Just the fact that there are so few elite bigs means that if you have one, you have a HUGE advantage over everyone else.

The fact is, you need at least 2 major talents to win it all these days. Doesn't really matter what positions they play. So 2 major talents + 4-5 solid role players is what we should be shooting for.
