Listening to SportsTalk 790 and they just suggested that there is some rumor that Howard Re-upped with Orlando last year because the Magic were about to conclude the deal with Houston for a half-season rental?

I've never heard this before; how about you guys? If true, this makes the current push, again if true, for Howard beyond ridiculous.

Not sure I wouldn't want to just have the two Top Ten picks and race toward the future.

    Making excuses for Zimmerman :p

We've wanted Howard all along without him committing to an extension. That hasn't changed.

Yes its true.......I find it laughable that ppl actually believe an all-star/superstar caliber player would want to play for a lotto team

Even if we could do the one year rental, how could we keep him since Magic has much better record than us and he still wants to leave?

Okay, to help along the quick-draw critics, I've edited my OP to highlight the word "because." I'm well aware what Howard did; I've just not heard the speculation that he did it to avoid coming to Houston. Is that old news, too? Never heard it and I'm here pretty much every day.

This is where that comes from.

    http://rockets.clutchfans.net/2668/dwight-howard-houston-rockets/

That was my speculation about why he opted in. That the Rockets believed they were going to get him is fact... the story clearly says I was speculating that he could have opted in for that reason. I was on with 790 last month to talk about that with Matt and Lance.

Thanks. I missed that. Have any Orlando sources suggested the notion of Howard being dead-set against Houston in particular? Your theory is right-on but nothing really against Houston in particular. He was set against a swap to any rental team.

I know the Rox are not atop Howard's list... but most teams aren't. And a lot of guys who have any contact with Houston as a place of residence choose to stay here.

Would you rather keep the two Top 10 picks or move them for Howard and Hope?

^I remember hearing that Houston was like fifth on his list. I could be mistaken.

If this is the Truth . . . . why are we even thinking about it.
Dude doesn't want to be here . . . . he is definately only a rental

Thanks. Hope spring eternal (if you want Howard)!

Why in the world would Deron and Dwight not prefer to be in Houston (West) than in Brooklyn (East).

Don't the Rox already fare pretty well against the Thunder? SA is on the decline. So are the Lakers. Others are competitive (Denver, Utah et al)

In the East, Miami is defending champ and beat the Thunder 9 out of 10 halves as I recall. LBJ and Bosh are in their prime. Celtics are in decline. Others are competitive.

While I prefer to build through the draft, I'm sure I would be a bandwagon fan of acquiring these two: INSTANT RELEVANCE.

So you've never felt like you really didn't want to do something, but you actually ended up being happy that you did when it was over?

Just because he doesn't want to come here now, doesn't mean he won't enjoy it here.

And honestly, I just find it absolutely hilarious that people constantly complain about Daryl Morey failing to get a superstar to come here, and now that there is a chance (slight chance, but still a chance) they might get Dwight Howard, people don't want to do it.

This is a chance the Rockets HAVE to take.

Or we could draft young future stars in the deepest draft of the decade...

I certainly wouldn't be opposed to that either, but for me personally I would rather take the chance on trading for the established superstar and hoping it attracts another star (D-Will) enough to sign here.

The only truth to this is what you make of a speculative opinion of Clutch. There is more evidence of life on the moon than there is of this speculation.

I agree why give up a "potential" talent for a guy who doesn't want to be here ON TOP of having back surgery? There is no guarantee he would resign and there is no guarantee he would "lure" another star here (D Will). There are other teams D Will could sign with that have a way better shot at a Championship (Lakers, Dallas).. So to give up a future for a disgruntled , 1 year player "hoping" D Will follows

Because Dwight isn't a "potential" talent... he's already a superstar.

And if Deron Williams ends up coming here, then that's instant contender status, not "potential" contender status somewhere down the road.

If Deron Williams decides to go to Dallas, then that pretty much kills Dwight's attraction to the Nets.

If Deron decides to sign with the Nets, then yeah, Dwight will pretty much be a 1-year rental. But if Deron Williams wants to go through a really rough year on the off chance that they sign Dwight next season, then more power to him.

Either way, that's a 2/3 chance that the Nets are off the table for Dwight. Which means there would be very few teams that are enticing enough to make Dwight take less pay to join... increasing the Rockets chances of keeping him.
