Me too, but as I said in my post, Howard can't be a one-year rental, and he's got to be healthy. If either concern comes to fruition, it won't be worth giving up two high lotto picks.

oh man, its gonna be the 14th pick for the 4th year in a row if we miss out on this. either way, i cant be too mad about dwight howard no matter what we have to give up for him.

we already gave up a jeremy lin because our team was way too stacked, and now we just want 2 more high lotto picks to be our 12th and 13th man.

morey i dont care if you trade away another rudy gay, this isnt shane battier we are talking about here.

I don't see how we would have enough assets to get both the #5 and #8 picks, unless we are doing something stupid like trading the rights to DMo as part of one of the packages (probably to Sacramento). Even if we could, trading both picks for Dwight is too much; the #5 pick plus salary fodder should be enough. Otherwise, the price is too high for a potential rental; I'd be happy if we just kept and developed the picks.

Howard couldn't win a title in Orlando surrounded by okay-not great talent. We think he's going to win a title here?

He'd put us on TV and sell tickets for a season. Sometimes, thanks to that bad back, he might even play, but he'll want to hold something back for when he bolts in 2013.

If we can get Howard re-signed AND he goes down with injury, that would be AWESOME!!! Not to Howard, but to Morey! It would be like the Spurs tank year they got Duncan! If we don't get Williams, and we have to trot out a team of Dragic/Lee/Parsons/Patterson/Camby, we're not going to be battling for 8th, we'll be battling for the first spot in the DRAFT! Shabazz? Nerlens? Morey is FREAKIN wise man!

Morey's playing chess when other GMs are still playing Connect 4.

    THANK you! Exactly. Exactly!

What is it, Morey? Make the big score here so you can take a dream job for another organization, whatever it might be? What? WHAT?

Look at it this way Rocket Fans, our accumulated assets are in play, dictating the direction of the draft and Super Star trades. Forget the 'secrets out' worry because every GM's office makes a 100 calls a day, they confer with influential agents about the future of their players and contract intents, and every potential deal is used as leverage to get a better deal from other teams. There are no secrets.

Whatever the final deal is will depend on the horse trading and we have a pretty good horse trader. We cannot really lose trading up, trading for Howard or drafting 14 & 16.

    Enjoy the buzz.

Your post identifies what I consider to be the biggest misconception on the part of the posters here: That IF you get D Howard, D Williams will MOST LIKELY sign here. Now unless Williams & Howard have their own secret superfriends deal that nobody knows about, I simply don't see how this is possible.

First of all, I have yet to see anyone in all of these threads offer a valid reason why Howard would want to sign a contract extension without some sort of assurance that Williams will be coming here. Conversely, no one has been able to offer a valid reason why Williams would sign a FA contract with the Rockets without some sort of assurance that Howard will be sticking around to play with him. If Howard doesn't extend here, Williams has no reason to sign and unless Williams signs on, Howard has no reason to stay. This ESPN report just doesn't pass the smell test for me. It would be outright foolish to go through all of this effort to get those picks and then give them away for Howard under this scenario. Why not simply take those picks, trade guys like Martin, Lowry & Scola and start the rebuilding now? I don't know about others here but I would be willing to give that approach time to work rather than watching the Rockets take (yet) another flyer on something like this.

Orlando failed to put good pieces around Howard, but despite that they did make it to the finals. They really crippled themselves with the Rashard Lewis contract (then Gilbert Arenas) then brought on some more bigger contracts that didnt pan out

imo those magic teams always overachieved because of 2 reasons

    1- dwight howard
    2- stan van gundy's coaching

It is all speculation at this point. Morey, being Morey, is talking to everyone at this point. I would be happy just coming home with Drummond. My feeling is that Morey would also. Howard is so far out on the risk curve as to be totally out of character with Moray's and Les's previous trades. I do not take it seriously.

Getting Dwight Howard will open the door to Deron Williams. Once we pair Dwight and Dwill...who knows who else we can pull.

I don't doubt Howard's actual talent, and I agree with you for the most part, and I know getting Howard would be a coup, but to me, it's also putting on blinders and Going For the Big Score.

It'll be a year of dating a super model, but one with issues; an ego and a bad back needing constant massage. She won't be able to go out all the time, you'll be stuck on your own while she's home, when it's good it's great, but, in a year, she'll leave you for some dude driving a flashier car, and you'll be left in the Toyota (Center), wishing you hadn't turned your back on that nice young shawtie you met....and she actually had interest in you, and could have turned into something special.

Ah, yes. And you're also stuck with the supermodel's dorky friend Hedo even after the breakup. Hedo'll hang around for about a year before taking the f-off hint.

Let's not forget that we'll miss out on Goran, too, because the Grand Plan involves Deron Williams signing here as well, even though Goran would cost much less and give you nearly the same production (maybe more; Williams is often hurt, too).

Maybe we're just trying to trade for Cousins....

But enough. I'm worse than Bill Ingram talking about Morey.

    This.

Howard is a top-5, arguably even top-3 player in this league and some you guys act like he's just another guy who the Rockets under no circumstances should trade for.
Howard and Van Gundy were pretty much the only reason the Magic were competitive at all these last few years.
You put the right pieces around him and you're a contender for years to come.

I don't watch a lot of basketball, but the people I talk to who do all say that Drummond basically does not know how to play basketball. He has zero skills and has a questionable work rate. All he has going for him is freak athleticism. DeAndre Jordan had that too. Drummond is better athletically, but this man needs to learn how to play basketball...
