Renting Dwight Howard at least gives us a chance to lure Deron Williams or other max FA. If we are lucky enough to pan out something like this, we would get back to being a championship contender.

Even if Howard leaves next year, we could finally start our rebuilding process, instead of being on the mediocrity treadmill.

And remember, what we are giving up is just a team that couldn't even make the playoffs. I think everyone here agrees that this current team has to be blown up. For me the risk is very minimal.

That is just to DAMN MUCH for a Rental.

Keep in mind that Dwight is 27yrs old this year and coming off of back surgery.

hedo? man thats a lot of salary we have to match. i really dont think we have anyone with big enough salaries apart from Scola and Dalembert thats anything comparable with DH12's and Turkoglu's salaries.

and im not sure if the new GM is audacious enough to move DH12 before his GM chair is even warm.

Mock Draft 9.0 (both 1st & 2nd round) coming today. Feeling good about Top 13 picks, but Rockets trades can screw it all up …

I hate Dwight’s attitude like everyone else on this board but this is a no brainer if you ask me. Dwight has made it crystal clear that he’s very hesitant to leave money on the table so if we acquire his rights prior to free agency I think we’ll have a great shot at retaining his services for the long term. If he does bolt we begin the rebuilding process we’ve been all clamoring for. I’m sure others have said this but it’s a win win in my opinion.

My question is…if we pull this trade off and resign Dragic and Lee…what does our salary cap situation look like to possibly sign another wing scorer to help this team in getting buckets? I assume Morris will be part of the package sent to Orlando to land Dwight so I think we’ll be very thin in terms of capable scorers.

    Dragic/Lull
    Lee/Bud
    Parson
    Scola/D-Nuts
    Dwight/Camby

We need a scoring wing...someone that can play the 2 or 3…Anyone (BimaThug) know what are cap will look like after these possible moves take place?

Well first of all, why would Deron sign here knowing that Dwight has no intentions of staying here?

Secondly there are no other "Max FA" outside of Deron.

And no we aren't giving up just role players on a mediocre team, (according to reports) we would be giving up valuable picks in the 5th and 8th pick (if we obtain them). These picks could be use to actually rebuild the rockets!!!

For all of the DWIGHT HATERS out there, think about it like this...what if we didn't draft Hakeem (Akeem for the nit pickers)? What if the only way we could get him was by trading for him...wouldn't you? I'm not saying Howard = Dream, no one = Dream. What I'm saying is you have an All-Star 5, available via trade, you do that you have to do to get him.

Just had to get that off my chest, I'm Pro Howard trade obviously.

    Stop being stingy!
Holding all our "assets" gets us nowhere, it's time to flip our chips to something BIG!

Wow this was an awesome thread to wake up to...seems to me like the deals are likely done in principle for the 8 and 5 picks.

And I doubt morey does that without feeling confident in Howard trade... Also I promise we land Howard we land d will.

Makes for good talk on a message board, if nothing else, ha. I think this is just talk and nothing will come of it.

Sure seems to be asking a lot to acquire not one but TWO top ten picks and then have the Magic GM go to Dwight and ask for an answer. "Hey Dwight, we need an answer. Are you staying or going? We have a potential deal lined up with Houston. So what are you going to do?"

Can't you see it now, Dwight signs new 5 year extension with Orlando. :p

I don't care if we have to trade Everyone except Dragic for Howard. You do the trade.

You want to attract Williams? this is your shot.

You want to get a top 3 draft pick in 2013 if he leaves? This is your shot.

Yep. I know, though, if DM is really going to pull the trigger on a Howard deal, that he knows more than how things look from here. I wouldn't do it.

    Agreed

But I will believe it when I see it.

Morey does this kind of stuff before the draft and at the trade deadline every yr. Things never seem to work out for a variety of reasons. So put me in the skeptical camp.

Considering nobody knows if Howards back is going to hold up, I think picking Drummond at 5 and Leonard at 8 is the safest/most upside way to go.
