I am OK as long as it's not a first date with David Stern.

jopatmc, you've been banging the Howard drum loudly. All these people have been killing you over it but you've hung in there. I haven't really chimed in because though it may be a longshot, there is still a possibility it happens until there isn't.

If these rumors are true that Morey is trying to land two top ten picks to land Howard, a lot of people will owe you an apology. Tell you what, just because, if the Rockets land Howard, I'll give the tip jar 100.00. Fitty in your name and Fitty in mine. Yes I said Fitty:p

What I hope for from all of this is, the Rockets take a real chance. So if that's Drummond or Howard, that is definitely swinging for the fences. MAKE A BIG PLAY.

I'm all for trading for Dwight, even at a rental. If you are going to do the Le$ win now strategy.. getting Dwight is a pretty win-win for everyone.

Now if the cost is two top 10 picks that would likely clear out most of our assets.. then I think we gotta get some extension talk going here.

Big fan of Drummond.. Think he has a good chance to be an All-Star player but he won't ever be Dwight Howard good. Drummond and Cap relief is the limit to a deal centered around a rental.

New players are sexy around draft time.. the novelty wears out fast.

    Dwight freaking Howard.

    Dwight Howard.

I'll be moderately upset if we grossly overpay but that's light years better where we are now.

Love it or hate it Dwight gives the Rockets something they grossly lack... direction. He instantly makes you a contender and if he leaves than the assets you had to pay to get him forces you to rebuild.

    Just do something.

Ok if the Rockets can manage to get two of the top 8 picks, I am estatic but I hope Morey isn't stupid enough to throw them both to Orlando for Howard just for a one year rental on someone who isn't even interested in Houston at all whatsoever. If Morey manages to get those high picks and trade them to Orlando, the Rockets would have one season with Howard where they makes the playoffs, loses in the first round, then Howard leaves during FA and the Rockets be stuck in the same circle again while Orlando is doing much better.

What's everything? A redundant and disgruntled PG and some mid round picks?

Considering the pieces this team would have to give up just to get Dwight over here, I seriously doubt they would have a good enough team to barely miss the playoffs after he left.

And as far as flipping what we can acquire for our redundant pieces for Howard, I honestly think a Howard led Rockets can compete to come out the West, especially with Deron.

Either way, I think the whole point is to try to get Dwight before Free Agency opens... hoping that gives them a shot at D-Will (not saying it will, I'm just saying that is probably their goal).

If they don't get D-Will to go along with Dwight, that's fine, they get one year to try to convince Dwight to stay. If he does, then they probably become a regular in the playoffs for a while. If he doesn't, then it's officially rebuilding time.

If they do get D-Will to go with Dwight, then that's basically instant contender status.

Regardless of what happens, I think it is a chance the Rockets definitely need to take.

That team wouldn't do as well as Orlando has done the last two years. Why would DH stay on board for that middle of the pack team? Its lightyears behind OKC, and even behind the Clippers. That team probably wouldn't take out San Antonio in a series, heck assume the Lakers make a small splash to shore up their team, then the Rockets would fall behind them also.

D Ho would walk away faster than we could say extension.

The Rockets aren't giving all that up only for Dwight. There would be other additions.

They will also have plenty of cap flexibility (at least during the moratorium) to be used to either pursue free agents (including Deron Wiliams) or make salary-eating trade. They also have the ability to re-sign Camby as the back-up center.

Also, I am not sure the trade would require Morris and Patterson.

It should do significantly better than Orlando has done the last two years. Specifically, this last season Orlando team won 4 games and lost 8 in the 12 games missed by Dwight Howard, they scored 104.8 points and gave up 109.5 points per 100 possession in the 1122 minutes in which Dwight Howard was not on the court.

Houston Rockets, on the other hand, was a .500 team, scored 105.5 point and gave up 105.2 points per 100 possession. There was no significant drop off with Lowry, Dalembert and Martin (the 3 guys projected to leave) were replaced by Dragic, Lee and Camby in the starting lineup (in the case of Lee vs. Martin, the team actually played better with Lee). In other words, even taking out the 3 guys you'd include in a Howard trade, the remaining Rockets are better than the Magic team sans Howard in 2011-12.

And of course, the Rockets can make trades and sign free agents to bolster the quality of the crew.

Two top-10 picks or Dwight Howard, I'm fine either way. Rental or not, I'd love a season where the Rockets are worth something. And make no mistake, Dwight Howard + whatever left of the players we don't trade for the top picks would make us in contention for 2nd or 3rd seed in the west.

And if we just draft a couple of young guys with those top-10 picks, that will at least show rebuilding.
