Gandhi wasn't Islamic persee, but he did do a lot of strange sexual things before he found the spiritual path.

Gandhi became a brahmacharya later in life, which means he followed the spiritual path, not one of any particular religion. And that's what Gandhi found appealing about Mohammed - the connection to spirituality - not the outdated religion itself. This is well documented.
