You have to understand that old people in this country, although stupid (main targets of all the infomercials), are a powerful group and have lots of money.

This is a age thing and I wont be surprised if a whole lot of old farts are donating.

 

It's "hip" from what I see, all age groups are donating because the media are hyping this story.

 

Sure, it is their money, and they are trying to send a message by supporting her.

Can't blame them...good for them and maybe some will be driven to that site and be motivated to help others.

You need to stop basing your happiness on others. If you were happy with your salary before you found out theirs... just be happy. How does this old lady getting money affect you in the least?

 

There are less sympathetic reality tv celebs getting paid, so I'm totally good with this. Her image broadcast all over. Her reaction being judged. And people willing to send her cash. All good by me. It's like a combo lotto win and celebrity payment with only those wanting to pay having to do so.

and since we're judging....I was expecting worse. Lots wrong with what those kids did, but there are likely countless middle school kids getting worse than this. Bullying at its finest, I suppose. Consequences for the kids are well deserved. But hardly a shattering indictment of a generation or even necessarily a representative portrayal of the kids doing the taunting.

 

I'm not, just pointin out that it's a shame what's happenin.

I'm not unhappy because I think I deserve the money, I'm unhappy because there are far more deserving people who are going through far worse things than what this lady went through.

 

Honestly, you would think this lady was dragged out of the bus by her hair and almost beaten to death or something.

Just this week, I've seen local stories about:

1) A pregnant Rice professor getting hit by a car in the medical center. She and her unborn child both died. The husband was too distraught to speak to the media.

2) An elderly couple stabbed to death in their own garage.

3) Pasadena couple dying in a house fire.

Forgive me if, after hearing about stories like the ones above, I don't have a lot of pity for a grown woman crying because some dorky 7th graders called her fat on the school bus.

Hell, my wife is a Kindergarten teacher and one of her kids actually hit her this year. She called the principal and now the kid is in an alternative school. She didn't cry and hit the national talk show circuit. And there was no 500K retirement fund set up for her either.
