liltexxx just showing that he knows nothing... a rail from hillcroft to UH would be incredible... elevated bus lines, on the other hand? LOLOLOLOLOL
61% of population wants walkable urbanism and more mass transit. Shouldn't Culberson do what the people want?
People who live in nice neighborhoods do not want to be within walking distance of public transportation.
Houston had plans for a grade separated (superior) heavy rail system in the 80s. Uninformed Houstonians voted it down. Houston had plans for a grade separated light rail line, but that was killed by Bob Lanier. Houston tried to get federal funding for a light rail line, but Tom DeLay and dickface Culberson blocked that too, lol. So we had to settle for a locally funded started line, that's why it's on ground level.
Tell that to people that live in cities like Boston where property within walking distance of train stations is at a premium.
It needs buses? Care to back that up? Did you not know that every major city in the country has an extensive bus system? And we are still pathetic in terms of public transportation as a country.
none of the rail fanboys have presented any logic or facts to convince others of rail's worth in the city of Houston I hear crap about "how cool would it be to have rail going from UH to Hillcroft" and "what world class city doesn't have rail", but that's just idle irrelevant garbage. Then I see ridiculous statements from mfastx claiming that rail is more efficient than buses, yet he doesn't even take the most basic of steps to include capital costs in his analysis, so his analysis is worthless. Culberson was right to abort the rail plans.
Here's a fact: Operating cost per person of light rail: $1 Operating cost per person of buses: $5 bigtexxx, what's the capital cost of building freeways and streets that buses drive on? How many billions?
I have to assume that you're a high school student or younger. I'm sorry but I will not argue economics of rail vs. bus when this is how you open the discussion. This is so amateurish that I'm embarrassed for you.
Getting slightly away from city-rail, but it looks like even our comrades in Kalifornia are turning against rail. Finally coming to their senses Poll: Voters turn against California bullet train http://news.yahoo.com/poll-voters-turn-against-california-bullet-train-214723961.html
Dammit, we are not going to get commuter trains until we have the infrastructure to handle it, which includes having light rail in the city!! This is the exact type of thing that taxpayer dollars should be used for!
