Having worked fairly high up in several large businesses I can tell you that what dobro described is just business culture in the US. So all of what you said jc9494 is an opinion about a situation which you have absolutely no knowledge of. Unfounded. The only thing you have an a defensible position on is attendance.

Which begs the question? Who on this roster are we crying for to be treated differently? Aaron Brooks because he didn't get an extension early? Obviously Yao Ming probably got much more face time with the folks at the top, but who are we whining about? It seems to me, the people that posters are whining about are players who aren't in the position to demand anything special from management.

This is exactly what previous posters are trying to build their point around. Read it for yourself. They were whining that because he's a stats, numbers guy he doesn't have the PERSONALITY to deal with the responsibility of being a GM in the NBA.

Not so much personality, but rather people management skills - and yes those have an effect.

I don't get nailed, it is an internet message board - and about as meaningless to real life as it can get.

Depends upon your motivation, etc....some folks are here to stir the pot, some are here as fans, some are here because they are bored.

Assuming you can read into anyone's thoughts - without the understanding of their motivation is a joke.

What am I saying that's an opinion....
-Former players AND A COACH were discomforted (put it nicely)by the fact that retaining their services or their future with an organization were not to be discussed until their actual contracts expired.
-The GM has said in several radio interviews that the goal is to acquire a centerpiece player to build the organization around.
-No elite FA has mentioned Houston as a desireable place to come.
-The attendance at the Toyota Center sucks.
    -Fan interest sucks.
Son, I'm going to tell you... There's things that are, and there's things that aren't. What I'm stating are facts, not opinions. Sure, when I say fan interest sucks, that's subjective. But I'm also a realist. As soon as you accept these as reality and not opinion-based, the better off you will probably be.
I'm asking you to prove me wrong of these "opinions" as you call it.

It is easier to bury ones head in the sand and hope, rather than deal with the unpleasantries of the truth.

Morey has had 5 years - not one, not two, FIVE - and all we ever get are the stories post facto about how the Rockets ALMOST got player X.

At some point, you have to look at the execution of his plan, and if he is unable to deliver on that plan, than what good is he as GM, really?

You can blame the players for not executing on the floor, why can't you blame the management for not executing as well?

    Amen...
Apparently this fan base is brain-washed by a guy who can turn water into wine, when the end result proves he's made nothing but lateral moves at best. I'm not even necessarily calling for his job. I've got beef with the un-warranted praise that man can do no wrong and no accountability.

People Management skills? You're truely losing it DD. Are you trying to get a job with the Rockets as their training director or something?

You and Roxio referred to his background in Stats an issue. Obviously people who study Quantitative Method also are perfectly capable of taking a soft skills course to learn foundations of leadership communication principles.

So obviously you are referring to one of two things. Either you know personally that the Houston Rockets are lacking training in Leadership Communication training or you think he's a nerd therfore he is lacking personality traits that make him communicate well.

You say yourself that you work for a Video game company. Based on that Im perfectly comfortable in saying that there are plenty of stereotypes out there assuming that individuals who play video games assume certain distinct personality traits.

Its either one of the other. Obviously you do not work for the Rockets and have no idea what Daryl Morey's background is in leadership/communication training so Im going to just assume that you think its the latter statement you believe.

Either way, is THIS really the reason why the Rockets haven't been able to pull a trade for a Dwight Howard type of player, or maybe just MAYBE is it cause the Rockets don't have good enough players on their roster in the first place???

Whether Morey is a nerd who cannot carry a normal conversation, or lacks proper leadership training it still has nothing to do with the outcomes he has achieved.

-Would Morey have been better off if he would have stroked the ego of Aaron Brooks and given him an extension? If that did happen then the Rockets would never have been able to trade for Goran Dragic and the pick that was combined to aquire Motiejunas.

The outcomes for his personality skills/training/whatever that have been practiced or not practiced with the players on this roster have done nothing to put the Rockets in a worse situation going forward.

Well then is it his moves you are critical of or his personality? Feel free to be critical all you want of the moves he has made, but his personality traits being a factor is completely unwarranted.

Just because someone ties that into their argument doesn't mean that other shouldn't question that logic just because they agree with the same outcome which is that Morey has not had success as a GM.

Easy now.... If we're going to play what ifs, then that goes both ways. Let's say he does give Brooks the extension. Then, Brooks would probably be signed I don't know 5-8 mil per and wouldn't have thrown the hissy fits. Yes, that wasn't right. But then lets look at the Martin/Hill/Tmac deal. Let's say that trade doesn't take place. McGrady's 23 mil comes off our books. We proably stll have Landry and would have signed him to a favorable contract, meaning that Luis wouldn't have the back-loaded albatross of a contract he has now. We wouldn't have the #16, but we wouldn't have had to go through watching Jordan Hill, Jared Jeffries, and Hilton Armstrong either. No, we wouldn't have Dragic, but remember, we don't have him right now either. If we get him, that's fine, but will likely over-pay. Lowry probably would have walked that summer too, but it's hard to say having Tracy's 23 mil coming off and not having Martin's 12+. Anyway you want to look at it, lateral at best.

DD stop acting as if this an isolated thing. Look around the league, you think this is a DM thing? Really? Pay attention to the NBA.

Dallas - Players openly pissed at Cuban. Jet Terry saying in the media that he is playing for himself and for his next contract because Cubes gave up on the team. Do I need to even get I to Lamar Odem?

LAL - Gasol pissed at Lakers because he did not want to come to Houston. Odom was so disgruntled about it the team shipped him off to Dallas for a bag of chips. Do I need to mention the number of times. Kobe has demanded a trade over the years.

Orlando - where do I even start? SVG in the media admits Howard is trying to get him fired. Howard demands a trade before agreeing not to opt out of his contract but is being such an ass that it looks like he will be traded anyway. JNelson has already said he will not be resigning to that did dysfunctional situation.

San Antonio - do you remember when Pops was actively and openly trying to trade Tony Parker in the media for Jason Kidd. Well that was definitely not treating a player like an asset right?

These are not the only examples of disgruntled players in an organization. Hell right here in jolly old Houston there was Vernon Maxwell, Scottie Pippen (who continued to bad mouth the organization after he was gone) and even our own very beloved Hakeem the Dream prior to the Back to Backs. Oh and CD did not treat guys like Cassell, Horry and Thorp as assets right? Even after all of those players contributed to championships? Nooooooo CD would have never done that.

So riddle me this batman, if executives like CD and Cuban treat players like assets and trade them even after those players brought a championship to the organization the what in the hell makes a bunch of role players so sacred to you?

Morey is doing the same things that other successful GMs have done. Some players (Jet Terry, Lamar Odom, Kevin Martin to a lesser extent etc... ) act like Prma Dona's. Some people like Luis Scola understand its a business.

So please stop acting like DM is somehow treating the players worse than any other GM just because he does not make the moves you want him to make.

Your missing the point. The point is Morey's personality had nothing to do with the positive or negative outcomes of that move. Debate all of his moves all you want.

I sure pick apart his moves myself, but tieing in the fact that some people think he carries the stereotypes of a "nerd" and therefore he cannot carry on human communication normally as means to justify whether he's a good or bad GM is ridiculous.

Dude, I have nothing against his personality. I haven't been critical of it. I've been critical of his moves, his nature of low-balling and non giving extensions. and the overall state of the franchise. I could care less if he's a number geek or has 5 girlfriends. I don't know, and I don't care. Like you, I care about this organization being a contender. Also, me being critical of Houston being a less desirable play to come play is more of a shot at his nature than his personality. Ultimately, it's his job to sell this city and organization to other players to come here. So indirectly, perhaps, he may lack some skill there. Me personally, I think it's more of his open-mouthed nature of "always trying to improve the team." Players want and like stability, and a GM known for a lot of turnover on the roster probably isn't welcomed. Now that, for jtr, is opinion. But it defiitely has premise.
