Thanks, hadn't seen that post before so nothing to worry about...I hope.
Might that explain why he was getting less playing time, lost his starting job completely (after getting punished for showing up late / not at all for shoot around?) and McHale didn't use him in the 4th when we were screaming for a big man so we could get some rebounds?

    I don't understand your question.

By amending his contract to push back the guarantee date, the Rockets wouldn't be FORCED to trade Dalembert on draft day (or before July 1) or be forced to waive him without being able to use him in a July trade. Pushing back that date ONLY helps the Rockets; it doesn't hurt them at all.

Let's say a Dwight Howard trade possibility presents itself in mid-July (after Hennigan has at least gotten his feet wet in Orlando as the new GM). Having Dalembert's partially guaranteed deal still on the table as a trade chip could really help facilitate such a trade.

Why WOULDN'T you want that possibility to exist for the Rockets?

Some people just don't understand the rules of the "GM game"

With respect Bima, i want to trade Dalembert on draft day. I want more draft picks. i want to improve our chances of finding a building-block-type player in this draft; which Dalembert is not.

I also think a Dwight Howard trade has as much chance of happening as Thabeet becoming an allstar. So no, i do not want to wait on trading Dalembert on the hope of a pipe dream, only to see REAL opportunities pass us by.

again, much respect, but we will agree to disagree on the need to rebuild.

Aruba, it's all well and good that we may or may not agree on rebuilding. (By the way, my "no-rebuild" stance was limited to LAST SEASON - go ask Clutch, he knows I've said that; I'm very much on the fence on rebuilding right now - all depends on what other teams will give up.)

HOW-EVAH (using best Steven A. Smith voice), amending Dalembert's contract doesn't mean that the Rockets CAN'T trade him on draft day. I still think, no matter what, that draft day is the single best chance to deal Dalembert. But what if there's no deal to be made? Would you rather just waive him and lose $1.5M in cap space? Or would you rather Les spend most of the maximum $3M cash allotment on paying a team like Sacramento or Toronto to eat that partial guarantee on draft night; money which could be otherwise spend in a REAL trade to move up or acquire a talented player or even to buy a pick or two? THAT is the effect of not pushing back the guarantee date on Dalembert's contract.

Again, I think you and I want the same thing: To use Dalembert to make a splash on draft night.

But to simply foreclose the option to utilize Dalembert's contract IF NOTHING MATERIALIZES ON DRAFT NIGHT is fairly short-sighted.

I think it depends on what happens draft night what happens with Dalembert. If we spend both picks to move up and come away with Beal or MKG or anything other than a center then it makes more since to bring him back. If we draft a center prospect then he needs to go so he does not turn into a progress stopper. Marcus Camby and Zeller or Sullinger etc would be my preference to Dalembert.

Plus I think he presents a great trade chip on draft night because he could represent an imeadiate 5 million dollar savings to some lucky teams salary cap.

Solid Backup - he is coming back - but what about Camby?!

    - Is there no Mambay Pambay for Camby next season?!

No point in discussing this any further. This is the master plan and the correct one.

The Houston Rockets are shopping Samuel Dalembert, according to sources. He may be packaged with one of Houston's first-round picks.

Not sure if that's news out or not, but I figured somebody was going to post it eventually anyway.
