I think the better question is why would you give up the two first round picks for Pau Gasol?

The Rockets would be a playoff team next season, but their ceiling would be a first or second round exit. Then it's all downhill because Gasol is old.

If the deal was Scola and #16 for Gasol I would do it (if we were certain Howard won't be a Rocket). I believe Scola has one more year than Gasol, and I would rather pay Gasol and get Scola off the books asap.

Why do you guys always make it seem like he wanted to take an elephant-sized dump on the city/franchise? Here's a quote from your article:

"It was going to be kind of a rebuilding situation," Gasol said. "You'd try to be competitive. It wasn't so much about the franchise or the city. It was just about the situation and how different it would've been than from what I'm used to now. That would've been very hard for me to adjust to, but if it happened and had gone down, I still would've done my best to do what I do and be the player I am and continue to play my best."

I think he would have found himself winning just about the same number of games as the Lakers had the trade gone down. Debatable, yes, but he would've been okay.

The Rockets are so close to being the Thunder( well not in terms of talent). But in terms of bulding a team

We SHOULD have been in the playoffs this year, its not like we are the Bobcats or Cavs

That is the mistake the Knicks did, they traded a nice young core with Gallo and Wilson Chandler for Melo. The problem wasnt their players, it was that they did not have a decent coach. Mike Woodson would do a lot better with Gallo, Lin and Wilson Chandler, with a Tyson Chandler in the middle

Can't believe anyone would seriously want Gasol. Shy's away from pressure situations and a non factor at the end of games. If you want Gasol for ANY reason or way.... you didn't pay attention to the Laker games. Taking my changes in the draft. Morris and Peterson NBA career's are ahead of them. don't write them off just yet. Besides our best pick was Donatas Motiejunas last year. Wait til you get aload of the kid, uber talented.

Thank you. These people who want Gasol are nuts. The Lakers are desperate to dump this guy on someone, and I hope it isn't the Rockets. Gasol had Kobe and Bynum playing at his side this year, and they couldn't make it past the second round in the playoffs. The Rockets couldn't build as good a team around Gasol as what the Lakers had. It's time for our youth movement.

The Lakers are not dealing from a position of strength right now, and so I find it hard to believe that Morey would fork over two 1st round picks in a talented draft for Gasol. One pick, the #16, + Scola and Dalembert for salary purposes should be sufficient. They can draft Kendall Marshall at #16 (I don't see Philly picking him up, nor do I see him going in the lottery), and they'd get their role playing point guard of the future, making a deal for Lowry unnecessary.

It would be nice to have Gasol, and Donatas playing next to each other. Gasol is an excellent passing big man who can defend the paint while Donatas can spread the floor and dish the ball well. I can see why Morey would consider it, but he's not desperate. The Lakers are desperate to be the favorites again and they need youth and role players.

I don't mind giving up Budinger and the the 16th pick, or the 14th pick if it means the Lakers take Scola and Dalembert. Both teams would be better off in my opinion.

    Gasol / Camby
    Patterson / Montiejunas
    Parsons / Morris
    Martin / Lee
Dragic / Lillard (Lowry and 14 to Portland)

    Bynum / Dalembert
    Scola / Hill
    Budinger / Artest
    Kobe
    Marshall (16th pick)

I see them asking for Lowry instead of Dalembert which is probably why Morey doesn't want to deal with them. It makes sense why some of you want Gasol. The Rockets need a star and Gasol is a sure thing, but it would be dumb to trade both picks in this draft for Gasol.

At some point he becomes a steal. The salary is not an issue if they will base a trade on Scola and Dally. Just where the steal point is I have no clue. I do bet the Rockets FO has a pretty good idea though.;)

It's a great deal if it's the 14th pick (if no one drops), Scola and Dalembert. Not so much if they want Lowry and Budinger or even Parsons instead of Dalembert.
