It's a given that we've gotten a lot younger at the reciever position since this past draft, but we still don't have much outside of AJ in terms of experience and talent combined. That being said would you attempt to trade for Harvin even with his injury questions (nagging migraines) and knowing that he will take some opportunity away from the rooks? I say it depends on how much we would have to give up and if the FO believes he could fit in our system.
I would take a look at it. Minnesota would probably want a high draft pick for him and the Texans aren't parting with those.

Why not? If you're going to be a Super Bowl contender, giving up a pick in the late 2nd isn't going to make or break your team. If I were the Texans, I would explore the possibility. Adding Harvin to an offense with Schaub, Foster, AJ, and Daniels would be unstoppable. Plus, G-d forbid AJ has another injury plagued season, there's much less of a drop off from him to Walter or one of the rookies. I'd love to see what schemes Kubiak could come up with, too.

Think long and hard if its a late second. If its a late 3rd rounder then its a no brainer. Minny will pull the trigger for a second rounder.
Would love to see it, but there is ZERO chance the Texans would make this kind of a deal. They're more likely to pick up a cheap veteran that gets cut in camp.
I don't know his game too much. People keep mentioning injuries - i.e. migraines, which I had heard about - but he palyed all 16 games last year and has only missed 3 in his career. I don't know much about NFL contract, or his contract, or about draft value, but he seems like he could be a great addition to the team. I guess late 3rd rounder sounds about right...?
according to the link up top he makes about 1.5 mil. that is not bad at all. Anything higher than a 4th rounder is too much. yea right now it seems like a bad idea to force a player like this. but if andre goes down, imagine how much the texans would be paying for a player like harvin then. its all about getting value now as insurance. his worth could be huge for the texans later. get it done smith. earn your extension
I'm perfectly fine with that. The window of opportunity for a championship in the NFL is so short that you can take a chance like this...especially at his salary, age, and abilities.
I say no just because the Texans are up against the cap already. The Texans would be losing a draft pick as well as having to cut someone that makes an equivalent salary. I am very anti-trade if draft picks are involved in the NFL as the team getting the player usually is trading away a pick and giving up cap space to sign another player. QBs are the only players generally worth giving up a draft pick in a trade. Harvin is not a QB. If it was Harvin for a player, it would depend on the player.
I understand the draft pick argument, but Harvin appears to be a much much better player than Walter. Walter just restructured his contract to earn only $2 million with a $3 million cap hit. Not sure what Harvin's cap hit would be, but he only earns $1.5 million, so I assume his cap hit would be that since we won't pick up any of his bonus obligation - though maybe I'm wrong, there - the link says his cap hit would be $1.99 million, so maybe that gets traded to his new team, too? Cut Walter. Not that difficult. You upgrade at wide receiver and save room under the cap (whether the hit is $1.5 or $1.99). For a 4th rounder, great. Late 3rd, probably. Kevin Walter was not that good last year, and was even worse in the playoffs. He's been better in the past, but if he's our number 2 receiver, you're screwed.
