Would you give up the #14 and #16 picks of this draft to land Pau Gasol?

Nah! Do not need Gasol. I do believe Lowry, Dalembert, and Martin will be traded though.

 

I take it by the op's name and the trade suggestion that they're a Laker fan and they don't know about the cba.

 

No, no way, and this team keeps trying to find ways to not compete for a title.


I'm sure the Lakers would fall over themselves for that deal, they get rid of Gasol's life draining contract and possible declining. The Lakers get younger and more athletic with alot less cap space. Why are we trying to help the Lakers?

Moreover, the Rockets would even be able to trade for such high salary without sending a few players back. If that's the case, I would really hate this deal.


They could essentially get Lowry or Martin with two first round picks. They'd kill themselves in bliss over that.

ANd people think Tyreke Evans for practically nothing is a bad deal.


Again, why do keep trying to help the Lakers?

In any other year these picks wont mean much. But this draft is loaded with great talent from 1-25.

 

Very good post and point. The OP some posters in favor of this scenario assume the Rockets take on straight salary. The fact is they still send over some contracts to match. The only that makes sense is at least Scola or Martin. Making this a lopsided deal for the Lakers that get Scola and two draft picks. That would be horrible. It would be franchise killing. Its a stupid idea.

 

Where's the "HELL NO" option? Time to go for some young talent!

I wouldnt give up any of those number 1 picks to the Lakers. Instead trade some of our players (Lowry, Martin or Scola).

Knowing Morey we probably get picks of the Lakers instead.

So, the idea is really Scola + the Picks for Gasol. We are NOT talking about sending Lowry in addition to the two picks. It's either Lowry or the two picks. NOT BOTH. For salary cap purposes, the easiest throw-in is Dalembert who the Lakers can waive and save some money.

In any case, Scola, the two picks, and a waived Dalembert would make $14.38 million next year. Gasol makes $19 million-- only $4.62 million more than what the Rockets would have paid these four players anyway. The trade certainly would not be a cap killer for the Rockets. It reduces their baseline flexibility for the upcoming season somewhat, but they can still get all the cap room that they want by letting go of a FA, by trading Kevin Martin or even by amnestying Martin if it comes down to that. A Kevin Martin trade to Minnesota can probably bring back the 18th pick in this draft, which enables the Rockets to another rookie (on top of Motiejunas) if they want. They will also have Kyle Lowry with whom to make a trade if need be (or they can let Goran Dragic go if the FA bidding becomes too ridiculous for him).

Now, I like Scola as a player an team leader. But if you have Gasol, Scola is expendable given that you also have Patterson and Motiejunas as cheaper alternatives.

 

One pick with Scola/Dalembert, fine. Both picks? No way. Lowry + pick(s)? No thanks. Parsons + _____? Nope.

Scola+picks is probably worse than Scola+Lowry for Gasol. There is no way Gasol is worth that anymore. Its not only about Gasol. Its also about what he is worth. He is not worth Scolam the 14th pick, and the 16th pick in this years draft. A real Superstar might be. Gasol is a second tier old player. A allstar yes but clearly not worth 2 draft picks and Scola. Gasol just does not have that kind of worth anymore. So Lakers should shop elsewhere.

 

Scola, Dalembert, and 14 (T.Jones) and Dallas pick for Gasol. That I'd do.

Then look at
1. Lowry for 8 (Lilliard/Leonard),
2. 16 and Morris for 21 (Euro stash Fournier) and 22 (Harkless/Teague),
3. Martin and Bud for minny's july expirings and 2015 future 1st with top-8 protection.

You honestly think that Scola, 14 and 16 is enough for a real superstar?

 

I would do that package for a player like Nikola Peckovic , with either Wes Johnson OR Derrick Williams thrown in


or maybe an Al Jeffereson/ Alec Burks package from Utah

At this stage of Pau's career he isnt worth the 14th and 16th pick anymore( especially in this draft)

 

It is maybe for maybe a younger up and coming Star like Peckovic from Minny

 

2 picks is pricey...you are losing alot of potential in that.

I just know I dont want to do it for that price. Am I really thinking Gasol would be so good as to not pass him up for the 14th and 16th pick mixed with Scola? There is no way he can be that good in my mind. Its a net loss we would be banking on getting other guys to come to Houston to help it turn into a good deal later on.
