Wouldn't the immigration count for Native Americans be 0?

I don't know about the other countries, but the majority of Chinese immigrants today (even though they aren't very visible in the U.S.) come from a 9-county area in China's Fujian province, centering around the city of Fuzhou, known for its shipbuilding. Most of these people are actually not from the city but from the adjacent countryside, almost all are poorly educated and many can't even speak understandable Mandarin. Considering China's population of 1 billion, the fact that this area of about 10 million people compromise the majority of recent Chinese immigrants in the US should tell you something. I'll explain to you how that is.

The way they come to the U.S. is either by ship or airplane, and they typically travel to 5+ different countries before making it to the U.S.-Mexico border many months later, using different fake passports, provided by the smugglers who were paid anywhere from $30,000 to #70,000 from my experience. As soon as they enter the border in Texas many are apprehended and they will, of course, all seek asylum. Some who don't just head straight to NYC.

Here's how the American asylum system works. Each case gets assigned an officer who would interview this person to make the decision. If the application was not approved right away the case gets transferred to the judicial system with an immigration judge. Of course by the time the immigrant gets to the court it's already 3 years later, and he/she has already made about $100,000+ working 70 hour shifts in Chinese restaurants, at least 15 times more than what they could make in factories in China.

To win a case in the immigration court, you'll need a lawyer of course, and from my experience the key is "evidence". Now there is nothing wrong with trying to get evidence, except none of the evidence is official, and for a good reason -- you can't get any official letter from the Chinese government when you are trying to claim persecutions by the government. As a result, you make up evidences.

As an example, here's how you claim asylum. "I was arrested, tortured and severely beaten by Chinese cops for trying to practice Christianity/FLG/Shouters/TDS." Evidence? 1) Letter from friend in China. 2) Witness who comes to court who works in another restaurant but was a friend back in China. 3) Most important piece - "Annual Human Rights Report published by U.S. government".

I'll explain the 3rd part in detail. Where did the U.S. government get reports about human rights abuses from China? So the judge looks at the report and it says in XXX, Fujian province, XXX got tortured for practicing XXX. He says, OK, this guy sitting in front of me is also from Fujian, his story must be true. Next thing you know, this guy's story also gets on "Annual Human Rights Report" and the cycle repeats.

I'm not a defender of Chinese government, and I know that there are cases that do exist just like what many immigrants described. Some of the stories I believe. But I'm not stupid. I talk to the lawyers representing the immigrants and they even acknowledge there is a high probability that their client is a fraud, but of course adding, "Hey, I'm not asking him/her to lie." I talk to some of these Fujian illegal immigrants in private and I've not found a single one who did not make up a story to get his/her green card. Some of them instantly smile when I ask the question and everything is understood between us.

So they get their asylum, and after a few years they become U.S. citizens despite speaking no more than 100 words of English. Now they can apply for a China visa and fly to China legally and pick up all of their relatives to live in the States on their return flight. (Apparently they are no longer afraid to go back, and to be honest none of them will be arrested in China, unless he/she was active in anti-PRC activities while in the U.S.) In NYC region alone there are roughly 1/2 million of Fujian immigrants alone. Meanwhile, U.S. government continues to publish "Annual Human Rights Report" to bash China while China gets rid of tens of thousands of uneducated people every year to alleviate their population problem.

Technically Jesus would be an Asian American if he immigrated to America.

Interesting read. Do you work for immigration? It's funny, that I've only meet one Fujian in my life (that I know of). The stereotype is that they are a criminal element... though I wouldn't really know.

My wifes family is one of the few from fujian who came here legally through a work visa and then sponsorship through the same company. For the most part sinobball is pretty correct about this. The fa lun gong route is usually the easiest bs asylum to get through since you dont have to do as much work to convince the judge that you are a true believer. Some go the christian asylum route which takes much more time since you have to prove that you attend weekly services and your pastor must testify about your evoutness to increase your chances.
