FB- you're a teacher? If so, what subject do you teach, and at what level? I ask because your spelling and grammar, at least as evidenced by your posts here, are often incorrect. Would you say you're one of the better teachers, or better qualified teachers, in the L.A. school district?
Great question. I have plenty of grammar and spelling mistakes in my posts, because I often mistype, and post in a hurry, and plus I'm prone to making mistakes. It would mean more coming from someone without all the spelling and grammar mistakes that you make or even the word choice that you used in the question. "Often" isn't an accurate word to use in this case. But your point isn't isn't inaccurate at all. I teach 3rd grade. I would never claim to be one of the best teachers in the district. I care a lot about the students and population I serve. I won't speak to my students test scores except to say that they've been fortunate. It's a lot of hard work even for someone who is as flawed of a teacher as I am.
At will contracts for teachers! No more tenure for teachers! (There's tenure in very few workplaces today; why should teaching get a pass?) EARN YOUR KEEP AND EDUCATE THE KIDS. If you fail the kids, you should be canned immediately (there are just some bad teachers that cannot be helped).

Well, I seldom read your posts, but when I do I occasionally find mistakes, so it's not unreasonable to extrapolate from the limited data sample to say that in the full data set one would expect to often find grammar and spelling errors. in any case, I have friends from grade & high school who have become elementary school teachers, and I am frequently appalled by the mistakes I find in their day to day writing on FB, twitter, email and elsewhere. no doubt I make my own mistakes, but I don't get paid to teach basic grammar to 8 year olds.
Expenditure per pupil in Houston and the surrounding Isds. Cy Fair. $6,256 Klein $6,575 Spring $6,603 Katy 7,070 Tomball 7,368 Spring Branch $ 7,510 Hisd $7,791 The Districts can not spend 8k plus per student out here because of the School Funding formula that is used in TX.
Like you said I'm prone to make plenty of mistakes. However, part of what we teach 8 year olds is the writing process which includes revising and proofreading. Since I also write professionally, I'm a sucker for that part of the process. When I use it, I don't make nearly as many mistakes. I hope your mind is at ease. If not you can always read even fewer of my posts. Either way there will be mistakes a plenty.
basso - I hear you're the world's biggest doucheclown. At what level? I ask because you are often unfunny and dirty and not at all hygeinic as evidenced by your posts here, in fact after reading them or even seeing them without reading them, I feel like I just worked an overtime shift in the sludge tanks at the Newtown Creek Sewage Treatment Plant....
Those numbers are inflation adjusted. Here is another view of the spending if you want but the source for the 'spending per pupil' is the same. The point I was making was that, contrary to thadeus's thinking, politicians love throwing money at education. Looks great on a headline even if it doesn't lead to better results. As we have seen in the 'Obama accomplishment' thread, for many people results don't matter. Throwing money at something or passing legislation is enough.
Well the spending is not happening in The Houston area. Looking at your chart the Houston area spends like it is in the mid 80's early 90's. And spending isnt happening in Texas in general as it pertains to education. Teachers, parents, and students are just feeling the cuts.
those #'s are national averages, that means they include places like NY and other "high priced" areas that skew the average upwards. The cost of living is Much lower here, so we would expect to see a lower $ amount here.
We need to throw more money at it, and connect federal laws to the federal percentage of the funding that pegs administrator pay directly to instructor pay. We also need to make sure that every school that uses federal funds institutes competitive and PUBLIC bids for all construction (and other contracted) jobs undertaken. And, unfortunately, politicians love throwing money at education a hell of a lot less than they love sucking the penises of the wealthiest ***** in the country.
This is correct, but according to this link Texas is still 44th in spending per pupil in the U.S. http://economix.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/27/of-all-states-new-york-schools-spend-most-money-per-pupil/ More on the State of TX rankings. http://www.window.state.tx.us/comptrol/wwstand/wws0512ed/
The meaningful statistic isn't how much Texas spends, but how well our schools do. This has been debated in other threads so I won't rehash other than to say you are using really bad stats.
They spent money putting up the barbed wire then more money taking it down. Hooray for compulsory government schooling! http://www.chron.com/life/mom-houst...is-coming-down-at-68-HISD-schools-1609103.php
What year was the Barbed wire put up and at what cost. Do you have that information if so I would like to see it.
