I grew up in Houston and went to UH for undergrad and law school.

I would just go to the best school that you and your family can afford. DO NOT go to an elite school and rack up 200K in debt.

As far as I'm concerned if you're not going to Baylor, University of Texas, Texas A&M, or Rice... then you're screwed.
Those are THE schools in Texas.

^ to add I have my bachelors degree in economics with a minor in
real estate. While I went to North TX I also studied abroad in London (Corp Finance)
I was compensated with a scholarship that helped the endeavor

Those are the schools in Texas. I stand by my statement.
At least, they are most prestigious. Results may vary by student, but in general those are the top schools.

Says the 17 year old with no work experience? Enjoy that debt stud.

The comments in this thread are a joke. Good luck to the OP.

Shouldn't have added the "...or you are screwed" part, but nothing I have said is wrong. Those are the top four schools in Texas overall. Do students there incur more debt? Of course.

I'm not going to go to Sam Houston, UH, DeVry, or HCC to take a debt discount.

You missed St Edwards SMU etc etc it just depends on what part of study...
My point is a degree is a degree you'll learn in the big real world
A business degree from Pitt is the same as a business degree at UT. So...
If you want to pick your colleges bc of cough football as "prestigious" -ya stand far away from the true results. Watch out before making blanket statements
You shouldn't be in this convo. The OP asked people in college, and finished...
    You r trolling

This is laughable. University of Houston (especially nowadays) is 50x the school that Sam Houston is in every single way possible. UH is ahead in terms of recognition, merit, prestige, education quality, resources, sports, etc...

That being said I hated my first two years at UH and ended up transferring out of state junior year to a top 30 school so I could get "a better education." Not gonna lie, I had a blast. I learned A LOT both educationally and about life and met some of the most interesting people. However, I realized that getting a marginally better education (most public schools tend to be relatively similar as far as course load goes) was not worth racking up >$100k in debt over a few years.

So now I'm back at UH and honestly given a change of perspective i'm enjoying it a lot more. I've been interacting with professors more and actually taking time to get to know my classmates. The whole experience has been a lot better than before. I've also gotten a chance to do some research and other things as a result.

I think my point is, as long as you go to a solid college (preferably something tier 1) your experience will be what you put into it. Most every college has the tools at your disposal to receive a good education. You just have to put in the effort.

I think outside of finance/accounting, IT, and engineering... college is useless for getting a job....

if you are a hot girl, you can land a marketing or HR job

keep in mind, many companies will only interview students from UT and Texas A&M, at least my company has an unspoken rule about it...

The only schools in Texas that are worth it from an education and economical value are: Rice, UT, A&M, UH

Personally I think Baylor is completely overrated and I would not pay prestigious private school level fees for a school like Baylor. But hey, if your parents are paying completely for your education or you don't mind being in incredible debt with only a bachelor's degree I guess Baylor is your cup of tea. I don't think the education standard at Baylor is anything special to warrant the ridiculous cost.

Baylor has been on my radar way before RGIII even got noteworthy. LOL. They dropped off after I decided I didn't want to go to a Christian private school. UT has been on my radar for a while now, and its definitely not because of their football program or any sports program for that matter.

    Y U MAD THO?
