I'm currently looking at colleges, and of course it's very hard to see all of the colleges that you really want to look at, so I'm curious as to where people here go, and how they like it. It would also be interesting to see if there are any parallels between people in college on here, (what they study, what area they live in).. So yeah.
I think there are going to be 2 different types of experiences. First is College at home presumably 713 means you are houston. So living in houston probably commuting to school. 2nd type of college is going away somewhere. Say austin or college station even san marcos lubbock or nacgodoches something like that. I recommend going away if you get the chance. It gives you that true 'college' experience and think it is great experience. So I would say to consider that you will only have a few years like that, why not spend it away somewhere and get that true experience. just my 2 cents.
Do you really want to be prepared for the future or do you just want to mess around? Where I went you get the best education, you will have the advantage of having thousands of alumni in your area and you will be better prepared for the real world. Best part of it all, you don't even have to leave your home. An education that prepares you for the real challenges you’ll face in the workplace by bringing the real world into the classroom. And by walking with you, mentoring and guiding you, every step of the way. DeVry- Where dreams are made.
A little overrated imo. And it depends on what exactly you want to get out of college too. I stayed on campus my first year (UH) and it was fun, but then moved back home to save money and it was well worth it. Most of my friends I found outside of school (though several did go there) and I didn't care about partying or pledging. My only regret was that UH did not offer a very good RTV program, at least one that challenged me. That's something I only learned in hindsight. But it's not a huge regret, because my decisions led me to a happy place in my life. I think unless you go to a community college, which may be a good idea for the first year or two anyways, you're gonna get that "college experience" wherever you go, maybe more-so in some places.
UH is really dissappointing as far as colleges go, avoid it if you can. Very few 8/10s, I don't care what Paulstfk says . . .
Go to Sam Houston in Huntsville. Sure, it's not the best school in the world, but it's better than UH. And the current university President has a good vision for the school. Also, delicious $2 margaritas at a run down place called Panchito's in front of Hastings.
BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA. Oh wait...you're serious....BAHAHAHAHHA. Good job on, uh..well, having that big statue off of 45. Go Sam Houston!
Well, what do you want to study? What are your future goals? What are your financial restrictions. What quality of a school do you have the grades for. I am returning this fall for my super senior year(Got pushed back because of a co-op I did during a semester) at Texas A&M, studying Finance. Currently in NYC interning at a bank. College is what you make of it. You get involved and it is more rewarding. I agree with IBTL to go away for college, unless you can live here in Houston in your own pad or dorm. If money is a big issue, then yea live at home but Honestly having your own place is a great experience. But like I said, it really depends on what you want to study. I thought A&M would be much more hick than it is. Sure there are quite a few real country type personalities, but majority are not. I got involved and have really enjoyed my time there. If you want to do banking(Investment Banking), UT probably has better connections. If you want to do sales and trading, probably A&M. Not too sure about other fields of study(both are good at engineering). Rice is a fantastic school if you can get in and afford it. Recruiting wise, texas companies will be recruiting at the schools here. If you want to move up to the NE or cali, you have to take the initiative to find the connections yourself. Hopefully this has helped you a bit.
Funny..in high school, we always thought of UH as 13th grade. Seriously though, Sam Houston has one if the best Education degrees in the state-If you want to be a teacher, it's a really great program. It's music program is decent, theatre has a lot of clout, RTV is coming back up again, and the Criminal justice Dept is 2nd or 3rd in the nation last I checked.
