I think this has more to do with the school district trying to make their schools be exemplary or whatever rather than babying the students (which it's doing as well). Don't let these weak rules apply to your children. Tell them the real deal. If my kids grow up to be wusses it'll be because they are simply wusses, not b/c I told them they would never lose/fail. I can't lie to them like that.
A 69 equates to an F? Or maybe you got an F because your actual average was 64 without the 5 point bonus.
My average was a 94 because homework was not graded. I was just checked to see if you did it. 94+5-30=69
soooo...you just had to do it? It wasn't even graded/checked... Wow...What the Hell is going on in School?
Homework teaches you other things besides the actual practice of whatever subject it was. Responsibility, time management, etc.
Back in the old days, grading tended to be as follows: 93-100 - A- through A+ 86-93 - B- through B+ 78-85 - C- through C+ 70-77 - D- through D+ 69 and below - F
Weird, it was always by 10 when I was in grade school. 100-90, 89-80, 79-70, 69-60, 59 and below. So you must be thinking, damn that ess guy had it easy! hahah
By the time my kids were in school they had changed to what you posted in the public schools they attended.
I didn't teach me those things. It taught me that people like to make work up for the hell of it. What's funny is that my algebra teacher didn't let me do the homework in class either. So I just sat there and day dreamed or slept. What a total waste of time. College was much better. Never had to go to class and seldom had graded homework. I love working from home now. I can now be productive 10 hours a week and still outproduce people who supposedly work 50-60 hours a week. I don't believe in homework unless you need to practice or you need to get something done that can't be accomplished in class/work. However I still pretend that I work long hours. Perception is important in the corporate world.

Yeah, apparently it didn't teach you those things. I think it's intended to though. Hey, it's cool you have gotten through life doing the minimum. No knock on you, I'm all about working smarter, but still working harder as well. I don't believe in homework for the sake of homework, but it certainly has it's place. School before college is a joke. College for me at least, you had to go to class, or you had no idea what was on the tests. Working from home it all well and good, but it does have it's down sides. So what you say is true. Perception is important in the corporate world. Again, whatever floats your boat man. We just have different approaches to things. I'm no workaholic by any stretch of the imagination. It just strikes me as strange that you take such pride in doing the minimal amount of work and putting up the facade that you are doing tons of it. If you are doing a 10 hr work week, imagine how much you could actually do in 40. You'd be CEO in no time. Heck, perhaps you are already on multiple boards, and I've been assuming you aren't C-level and up. My bad.
Guess I was in the wrong school district. I'm from Texas, and our homework was graded. I mean grade school was very lenient. Retests, make up tests, etc. But awarding basically participatory grades is a bit weak. Just like the prefect attendance award...give that to my parents, they are the ones who made sure my ass went to school everyday. Not me.
Especially here....since the zeros were for missed assignments and tests. A participation ribbon for not showing up?
Work does not define me and don't want a "career". I never wanted to run the world. I'm not DD but I do better than most people. I don't talk about work much other than the countries I travel to.
I was talking about the University of Texas. I only had maybe 5 classes that had graded homework. My upper division classes had projects that I had to do outside of class, but they counted as tests.
Ah yeah, I was a UT grad as well. Yeah, there wasn't much homework. I meant grade school when referencing homework. I dunno man, in my classes, I had to go to class or I was lost when test time came. It was the main reason I went from having a 4.0 at midterms, and then would drop like crazy afterwards hahah.
