Last night was good. Hopefully the season finale takes it to another level. The show has potential. Next season better have a plot line that is interesting. The first season was not well-written.
Shows that have a lot of potential yet fail to deliver bother me worse that shows that are just bad. This one could be one of those. There is a ton of potential for a great show, but every week it just coasts along with no real point. If one more person sees a "loved one" that is harnessed and risks a mission to "get them back" I'll probably stop watching.
I watched last night's episode, and it was one of the better ones. There were a couple of "oh crap" moments in that episode. The season finale is a 2-hour one - hopefully it'll be a good one. FYI : I think they said there would be a marathon of all the episodes next Sunday before the finale.
Thats been my problem with the show. Nothing ever really moves forward, ever since the... Spoiler Ex-resistance guy tried to deal the kids to skitters. the show has been solid and moving forward. I was going to come here and say the finale was disappointing. But the ending was pretty good and was a twist I didn't expect and one that should make for an interesting story for season 2. I hope the 2nd season doesn't linger on from episode to episode like the first though. Also I hope there are more action scenes.
Ha I thought the exact opposite. I enjoyed everything up till the very end. Spoiler Tom seemed a little too willing to go with the aliens. I know you don't want to see your son taken again, but how can you trust them?! And true, he could have been forced to go, but I almost would have liked to have seen that. He didn't ask any questions...it's like he was brainwashed. It just didn't make much sense. He was finally in a position of leverage. They obviously scared the aliens, and he didn't try to even use it at all. And then I wished they would have done more damage than they did. They pretty lost almost their whole army, and all they did was destroy one ship and a hangar bay?! Some definite plot holes and one part very much reminded me of a scene toward the end of 300, but it was still enjoyable.
There were some goofy moments in the final 2 episodes tonight. Spoiler It's basically what's been plaguing the series. I don't know if it's bad directing, bad acting, or the writers should be questioned. 1) It freaked the hell out of me when I saw Rick hanging from the ceiling like a damn spider. 2) When they took all the info from Rick and didn't want him apparently, they left him crying in the woods. That made no sense to me. Why would they just dump him? And then he goes to bawling like a baby when the rest of the series, he was scary as an emotionless zombie. "They hate me... they don't like me... waaaaah... waaaah". 3) The ending left you in a bit of suspense as to how the story will continue, but the ending was like something off of Close Encounters. It was odd. They could've just killed them both right there, but apparently there's more to this. And how does him going with them mean they won't continue with whatever attack they're doing on the planet? It seemed a weak ending, but a cliff-hanger nonetheless. Did anybody else see them show that the next season would be Summer of 2012. One year away for the 2nd season? Damn. Is that normal? So far I'm going to give this series a 5 on a 1-10 scale. It's still got potential, but the story's going to have to get a bit more coherent and the acting/writing has to get a bit better.
Unfortunately for them, I'm not sure what else they can do. It's not like a Star Trek where you can just encounter a new alien race or a new planet and have a new story. With this, it's Earth vs. Aliens and there's that giant platform we need to take down. More action scenes would be good, but wouldn't do anything for the plot since you can't really have an hour of nothing but fighting. Their only hope is if things get really weird with what happened tonight and it allows them to branch the plotline away from "point a to point b and that's our goal".
These two episodes were OK. I watched them on DVR and it seemed like there were an unusual number of commercial breaks. If Season 2 isn't a big improvement, I've wasted time. They won't get away with another season of sluggish, meandering plots. I'm a Sci-Fi nut so I want to enjoy this show, but my patience has run out. Won't be holding my breath until next summer. I expect it to crash.
I just feel like there should be more. For example these past two episodes... Spoiler Had one action sequence, when the Mechs came to the school. I mean I expected to see Skitters get shot at and some of the people dying at least. For example, they skipped over the entire final battle. I mean sci-fi fans want to see the final battle. The only thing we saw was the aftermath when he came to get Weaver. I feel one big difference between this show and say 'The Walking Dead' was that show had a lot of action scenes sprinkled in. Also I agree with the plot holes...why leave Rick there? That made no sense at all considering they should have known he'd just go back to the Humans and wail about how he was abandoned and tell the resistance that the skitters were on the way. As for the humans I mean someone during the whole time Rick was there should have seen that coming, that he'd betray them the first chance he got. But I liked the ending. I felt that it was somewhat believable. He didn't have time to really weigh his options and the threat that they'd take Ben back was very real. After all they see the changes in him and Tom's probably thinking that there is little hope they can reverse the effects, getting the harness off was hard enough. If anyone can stop the transformation than it's the aliens themselves. So he has to deal with them. Also he gets to learn more about them and if he were to escape, he'd bring back a lot of valuable info. Only problem is the cliffhanger leading into next year. Seems like a lot of shows are now taking year long breaks nowadays.
This show gets 2 more episodes from me next season, and if there isn't improvment, I'm giving up on it.
The new season starts tonight for anyone still interested. It's a 2 hour special starting at 8:00pm central. I'll probably record them and watch them later. Will Wheaton doing interviews with the cast & crew afterwards. Oh boy!!!! http://www.fallingskies.com/
I'll be watching. I enjoyed last season, it was more or less what I wanted out of Walking Dead but did not get
These two episodes were enough for me to keep watching. Very heavy emphasis on action. I think the table is well set for a big improvement over last year.
Cant wait! Really curious as to the new type of alien and the role they play as well as the way the skitter rebellion is going to develop this season. It's going to be hard to watch game of thrones, 2 hours of falling skies and game two tonight though haha
I'll get home about 8:00 p.m. and finish game 2. The DVR of Mad Men is next. Then I'll catch a break before watching both episodes of Falling Skies on TNT-W at 11:00 p.m. Seems like all the shows I watch are on Sundays or Mondays.
